Sure, you can go with local utility provider PECO, which has a price to compare (PTC) rate of 6.405 cents per kWh through August 31, 2020. But why would you when there are so many other options? And, since the PTC rate changes every three months, you never know what prices are around the corner.

If you want a cheap electricity plan that’s not too long or short, the 12-month plan is just right. And, even though electricity prices are on the low side now, this is bound to change once the natural gas surplus runs out. It’s also been suggested that higher electricity prices might return in 2021, so lock in a good rate now.

To get you started, consider these five cheap 12-month plans in the PECO area.

Cheapest 12-Month Electricity Plan

If you want the cheapest 12-month plan available, the Frontier Utilities PA Frontier Secure Power 12 plan is it. With a price of 5.79 cents per kWh and no early termination fee, this low-cost plan has seen no rate changes for this plan in April 2020. There’s a monthly recurring charge of $9.95 per month, so factor this cost into the equation when comparing plans.

When it’s time to renew your electricity plan, you’ll receive two written notifications in the last two months. If you don’t sign up for a plan term longer than one month, the current electricity contract will continue. It will be on a month-to-month basis with a variable rate. You can cancel this renewal plan at any time with no fees.

Low-Cost Electricity Plan with No Fees

Another cheap plan to consider, and one with no fees, is the Starion Energy Starion Secure 12 plan. Priced at 6.69 cents per kWh, there are no monthly recurring charges and no early termination fee. As for the rate history, this plan has seen slight changes but for the better. The plan was priced at 6.89 cents per kWh in November 2019 and then decreased to 6.69 cents per kWh in December 2019. It’s been holding at that rate ever since.

When your contract is about to expire, you’ll receive two written notifications two months prior. The notices will specify the new term length and other plan features you’ll be signed up for unless you select another plan.

And, for customers who love rewards programs, be sure to check out the Starion Energy online rewards program. This program provides customers with access to dining, entertainment, and shopping deals.

Cheap Electric Plan with Steady Rates

If you want an electricity plan that’s cheap and has a history of steady rates, consider the Titan Gas and Power 12 Months Fixed plan. With a price of 6.92 cents per kWh and no monthly recurring fees, the price is right. Just note that an early termination fee of $75 exists, so keep this potentially extra cost in mind when signing up. The 12-month plan has a history of steady rates since January 2020, which is a good sign for future reference.

The company will send you two written notifications in the last two months of your contract explaining renewal options. If you do nothing, your electricity contract continues on a month-to-month basis at a variable rate. If you cancel your plan once it becomes month-to-month, you won’t have to pay an early termination fee.

For those who like rewards programs, the company offers an inclusive one. The Titan Gas and Power Rewards program offers more than 500,000 deals and can save you money on shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Green Energy Electric Plan

For an electricity plan that has green energy features, take a look at the XOOM Energy SimpleClean 12 plan. Priced at 7.19 cents per kWh and with no monthly recurring charges attached to the plan, this is another option to add to your list. The plan does have a $110 early termination fee you should know about in case you need to cancel early.

The XOOM Energy SimpleClean 12 plan has shown price fluctuations since October 2019 when it was 8.19 cents per kWh but has remained below that price since then. This gives you an idea as to how competitive XOOM Energy’s prices are, which is helpful when it’s time to renew your plan. When your current contract is almost up, the company sends out two written notifications, approximately 60 days and 30 days prior. The notices will provide a date that you must renew by. If you do nothing, your contract will be renewed at your current rate and plan structure.

What sets this electricity plan apart from the rest is its renewable energy features. How this works is 50% of all electricity that XOOM Energy sells will be matched with renewable energy credits. The renewable energy credits are generated from alternative or renewable energy sources in the United States. Another benefit of signing up for a plan with this company is that you gain access to the inclusive XOOM Energy Rewards program where you can get deals on dining, shopping, and travel.

Additional Low-Price Electricity Plan

Since options are good, here’s another 12-month electricity option for you offered by Public Power. The Public Power Saver’s Edge 12 plan is priced at 7.19 cents per kWh with no monthly recurring charge. There’s a $50 early termination fee attached to the plan, so there’s a slight added cost if you cancel early. This plan has experienced slight rate changes since December 2019 when it was 7.15 cents per kWh but nothing too drastic to cause concern for future renewals.

Regarding plan renewals, Public Power will send out two written notifications in the last two months explaining your options and plans at the end of the contract. If you don’t respond, you’ll be automatically enrolled in the plan mentioned in the notice. You’ll be able to cancel it anytime with no early termination fee.

If you like rewards programs, you’re going to love the one Public Power offers. The Power Perks program allows you to save when shopping at your favorite stores or purchasing energy-efficient products.

Best 12 Month Electricity Plan

Now that you know the best options for 12-month plans in the PECO area, you’re probably wondering which one is the best out of these five plans. If you’re looking for the cheapest plan, you probably want to go with the Frontier Utilities or Starion Energy plans. When you’re doing the math, remember that the Frontier Utilities plan is under 6.00 cents per kWh but has the $9.95 per month recurring charge to figure into the equation. In the alternative, the Starion Energy plan might be slightly higher in price per kWh but has no added fees which could make it a better option. As a rule, it’s best to consider how much electricity you usually use per month. That way, you can get a more accurate calculation of a plan’s costs and benefits. This will help you determine which plan is a better deal.

Now that you know some of your options for 12-month electricity plans, you can continue researching plans at https://www.paenergyratings.com.
