With wholesale electricity prices increasing on average <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/outlooks\/steo\/report\/electricity.php#:~:text=We%20forecast%20the%20U.S.%20residential,by%20higher%20natural%20gas%20prices.\">20%-60% nationally<\/a> this winter you need to be prepared. How will these <a href=\"http:\/\/www.energychoicematters.com\/stories\/20221018b.html\">rate increases<\/a> and changes affect your home electricity bill in Pennsylvania?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>First Energy Rate Hikes Effective December 1st<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><br>The average Pennsylvania consumer uses <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/electricity\/sales_revenue_price\/pdf\/table5_a.pdf\">851 kWh <\/a>per month. Winter usage also tends to be higher than average. Consequently, these increases could be even more painful for your budget. Let\u2019s break these changes down for First Energy service areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paenergyratings.com\/companies\/met-ed\">Met-Ed<\/a><\/strong> is increasing their rates by 10%, from $0.09397 per kWh to $0.10303 per kWh. As a result, the supply portion of <strong>Met-Ed<\/strong> customer bills is going to increase on average from $79.97 to $87.68.<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paenergyratings.com\/companies\/penn-power\">Penn Power<\/a><\/strong> customers are facing a 1% increase to their rates, going from $0.10348 per kWh to $0.10511 per kWh. As a result, <strong>Penn Powe<\/strong>r customer bills  will have an average increase from $88.06 to $89.45<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paenergyratings.com\/companies\/west-penn\">West Penn Power<\/a><\/strong> customers will see a 2% increase, from $0.08306 per kWh to $0.08517 per kWh. Consequently this will result in an increase from $70.68 to $72.48.<\/li><li>Good news for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paenergyratings.com\/companies\/penelec\">Penelec<\/a><\/strong> customers, your costs are decreasing! <strong>Penelec<\/strong> rates will lower by 1%, from $0.10021 per kWh to $0.09889 per kWh; as a result the average bill will decrease from $85.28 to $84.15.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3>Rate Hikes are Trending Across Pennsylvania<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><br><strong>First Energy<\/strong> isn\u2019t the first to raise their PTC rates this season. Previously in Pittsburgh, <strong>DLC<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.energychoicematters.com\/stories\/20220930a.html\">raised their rates<\/a> by a staggering 27%, from 6.9395 cents per kWh to 8.8349 cents per kWh. Meanwhile in Philly, <strong>PECO<\/strong> filed to<a href=\"http:\/\/www.energychoicematters.com\/stories\/20221014c.html\"> increase their PTC rates<\/a> and are waiting on approval. These increased rates last for three months, which means prices could go up AGAIN on March 1st.
