After all, it lowered this winter. However, while natural gas prices are lower than last winter, they have been slowly trending upwards. So those low PECO PTC rates won’t last for long! And summer’s just 6 months away. Learn why your best bet to save on your 2024 PECO bills is to shop these four great electricity plans now!

Shop Electricity Plans Carefully

The PECO PTC rate is 8.917 cents per kWh and ends on May 31, 2024. Assuming an average monthly electricity usage is 854 kWh, that means the PTC cost is about $76.15 per month. Now, if you simply want the lowest rate that’s easy to do. But remember the best deal can lie buried in the details.

First, there’s Frontier Utilities PA Frontier Secure Power 12. This 12 month fixed rate plan from our #2 company rated provider is only 7.79 cents per kWh. And you could save $9 a month compared to the current PECO rate.

Similarly, the Energy Harbor Safe Harbor 11 offers an 11 month fixed rate for only 7.89 cents per kWh from one of our best rated providers. You could save $8.76 a month compared to the current PTC rate from this #3 customer rated provider.

But while these plans are the lowest rate, they both include a monthly $9.95 charge. Now, it’s true that this charge eats up the savings for both these plans. However, there is an important long term upside. You can lock in these low prices for basically a full year even if PECO raises its PTC rate on June 1. So, even with the monthly charge you’ll still likely pay a lower rate during the summer. That’s the highest electricity usage period of the year.

Plus, with no cancellation fees, you’re free to shop if rates drop again.

Lastly, these Frontier and Energy Harbor send contract expiration notices out before customer contracts end. Customers need to watch for them because if you don’t choose to cancel or pick a new plan the provider will automatically renew you to their variable rate plan.

Get Electricity Plans Without Extra Fees

Meanwhile, the Live Brighter 12 plan from Direct Energy is down from last year’s whopping 10.89 cents per kWh. Right now, this 12 month fixed rate is only 8.19 cents per kWh and comes without any monthly charges or early cancellation fees. You could save $6 a month, or $72 a year over the PECO rate. The catch is this plan is only for new Direct Energy customers. Lastly, as with the previous plans we’ve covered, watch for the contract renewal notices.

Shop a Great New Customer Offer

Top 10 customer rated Public Power has a new customer offer with a low rate. Their Electric 12 Month Standard Fixed Rate is only 7.99 cents per kWh. At $68.23 a month in supply charges, that’s about $8 a month less than PECO. And with no monthly fees to worry about, those savings are all yours to keep. There is an early termination fee, but it’s only $50. Lastly, Public Power also notifies you when your contract is about expire so watch for the two notices.

Save on Electricity in Philadelphia

The potential for uncertain natural gas prices this coming year could well last into the summer. And that means expensive electricity rates right when you’re using the most. So why gamble on PECO PTC rates when you can lock in a low rate now. But don’t risk finding an unreliable provider on PA Power Switch.
