Shop the best PA electricity plans and save more this holiday season.

It looks Like FirstEnergy and PECO are not alone in raising their winter PTC rates. Effective December 1, 2024 PPL will also be increasing their PTC rates by a significant amount. And with winter on the horizon, these rate increases are sure to hurt. Thankfully, you have options! We’re here to tell you more about how these rate changes will affect your winter electric bill. As well as how to find the best electricity rate.

How Rising PPL PTC Rates Add Up

PPL is increasing its default service rates by 7%. So let’s break down how this will affect your bill.

The average Pennsylvania consumer uses 851 kWh per month in their home. During the summer and winter months, useage tends to be higher. Unfortunately, these rate hikes could really hurt your pocketbook.
PPL is increasing their rates by 7%, from $0.1004 per kWh to $0.10771 per kWh. As a result, the supply portion of your bill is going to increase on average from $85.44 to $91.66.

And yes, this increase comes just in time for the holiday season!

Save with a Highly Rated Provider

Thankfully, there are low electricity rates available that you can shop for now! These are three of our most recommended plans in the PPL service area, and each one has its own strengths.

Firstly, from our top rated provider, is Constellation and their 6 Month Home Power plan. With the six month term, this plan is just long enough to get you through the higher winter rates and into the spring shoulder months. That’s the perfect time to shop for a new plan! And with the rate only $0.0999 per kWh, your monthly supply bill could be around $85. That’s $6 a month cheaper than the new PTC rate! The only thing to be aware of is the early cancellation fee of $150.

Save on PPL PTC Rates with a Variable Plan

Maybe you just want more time to shop. Or, you want more plan flexibility. Nevertheless, we have a plan for you! From American Power and Gas we have the Residential Clean Energy Plan. This plan starts at $0.0849 per kWh, saving you just shy of $20 in your first month. The second month, however, your rate will rise to $0.1089 per kWh, but, that’s still less than the new PTC rate. After that, the rate can vary. But with no monthly charges or early termination fees, you can keep your options open.

Avoid High PTC Rates with Green Energy

Finally, we have a green energy plan with a fantastic rate for you! From Verde Energy we have the Clean Power 6 plan. Just like our plan from Constellation, this plan has a six month fixed rate. Perfect for getting you through those winter months and into the spring shopping season! But it gets better. This green energy plan comes with no monthly charges or early termination fees. And at only $0.0989 per kWh, it’s one of our cheapest plans on offer! You can expect to spend about $84.16 a month in energy supply costs. That’s nearly $8 a month in savings!

Shop and Find a Cheaper Winter Rate

So don’t fret about the high PPL PTC rate this winter season! These plans could all save you money just in time for your holiday season. And if you need other options, you can browse plans, compare providers, and find the best electricity rates all in one place.
