And unfortunately, summer utility rate hikes are following right behind. This past summer’s PJM capacity auction results mean we’re going to see rate hikes this June. And, thanks in part to Winter Storm Fern, natural gas rates are rising too. Currently the EIA is predicting natural gas rates could rise into next year, further driving up your energy bills. Thankfully for PA consumers in York looking for cheap electricity, you still have time to lock in savings.

Get Ahead of Summer Rate Hikes

The current Met-Ed PTC rate is 12.965¢ per kWh. So, assuming the average monthly electricity usage is about 854 kWh, that’s around $110.72 a month for the supply charge alone. However, that rate expires on May 31, 2026. And as a result, the PTC rate that follows will include the higher prices from last summer’s PJM capacity auction. If the PTC jumps just 2 cents per kWh on June 1 like it did last year, the average monthly supply charge would go up to nearly $128.00.

So, while some plans we recommend may have rates that are a little higher than the PTC rate, they will likely be much cheaper than those starting on June 1. And if you can lock in those savings now, you’ll be protected from rising electricity rates until next spring when prices could lower. So let’s dig into some plans!

Best 12 Month Plans in York

First up is a new customer offer from Direct Energy. Their Live Brighter 12 plan starts at 14.3 cents per kWh. So, your monthly energy supply bill would be about $122. Additionally, there aren’t any early termination fees or monthly charges to worry about. And as a bonus, Direct Energy has a Refer-A-Friend program. For every friend you refer who becomes a Direct Energy customer, you can both get $50.

Our next plan is from Major Energy. Their Secure Choice 12 comes with no early termination fees or monthly charges, offering ultimate flexibility. This 12 month plan also comes with a rate of 13.7 cents per kWh, or an estimated monthly energy supply costs of $116. But if you’re looking for clean energy, check out their Secure Green Choice 12 plan! It’s only 13.9 cents per kWh, or an estimated monthly energy supply costs of $118.

Last but not least, if you want the best bang for your buck look no further than the Xoom Energy. They have two great plans, both with low rates. First is their SureLock 12 plan. This basic plan comes in at 13.0 cents per kWh, so energy supply costs will run about $111 per month. However if you’re in the market for a green plan, the SimpleClean 12 is only slightly more expensive. It comes in at 13.4 cents per kWh, so energy supply costs will run about $114 per month. Moreover, through their XoomXtras rewards program, you can earn points to spend on anything from gift cards to vacation stays that make up for the higher rate. Both plans have no monthly charges, but there is an early termination fee of $110 to bear in mind.

Save with Cheap Electricity this Spring

So, with Met-Ed PTC electricity rates rising soon, now is the best time to shop and lock in a lower rate. But if none of these plans work for you, don’t worry! We’re here to make shopping for an electricity plan easy.
