But unfortunately, utility rate hikes are greeting us with the warm weather. This past summer’s PJM capacity auction results mean we’re going to see rate hikes this June. So, DLC PTC rates could climb up by 2 cents! Thankfully for energy consumers on the hunt for cheap electricity, we have an electricity plan hack for you with these electricity plans!

Why this Electricity Plan Hack will Save You Money

The current DLC PTC rate is 13.75¢ per kWh. Assuming the average monthly electricity usage is about 854 kWh, that’s around $117 a month for the supply charge alone. However, that rate expires on May 31, 2026. And as a result, the PTC rate that follows will include the higher prices from last summer’s PJM capacity auction. Last year, the PTC jumped just 2 cents per kWh on June 1. If it happens again, the average monthly supply charge would rise to nearly $135.

Shopping for a cheaper electricity plan now is the hack to save money!

Now, some plans we recommend here may have rates that are a little higher than the current PTC rate. But, by locking in rates now, they will likely be much cheaper than PTC rates on June 1. And if you can lock in those savings now, you’ll be protected from rising electricity rates until next spring when prices may lower. So let’s dig into some plans!

Save with These Electricity Plans

First up from Public Power we have their Electric 12 Month Standard Fixed Rate with MRC. Coming in at 12.7¢ per kWh, the estimated monthly supply charge runs about $109. This plan does have a $14.95 monthly charge, bringing your monthly total to $124. There is a $50 early termination fee to be aware of. But, the plan comes in cheaper than the estimated summer PTC rate!

Next we have a plan from gold rated provider Frontier Utilities. Their PA Frontier Secure Power 12 plan comes in at 13.1¢ per kWh. The $9.95 monthly fee brings your estimated monthly energy supply bill to $122. Additionally, there’s no early termination fees, offering you flexibility.

Up next, we have two 12 month rates available from the same company! The Clear Guarentee 12 plan from Clearview Energy comes in at a 14.1¢ per kWh. So, you’re monthly energy supply bill would be around $120 a month. And with no monthly charges! But if you have an electric vehicle, they also offer the Clear Charge 12 Plus for the same rate of 14.1¢ per kWh. However, that extra monthly charge comes with free nightly electric vehicle charging through their EV program. Also, be aware that both plans have a $150 early cancellation fee.

Finally, we have a great renewable energy plan from Inspire Clean Energy. The Inspire Fixed 12 comes in at 14.2¢ per kWh, costing around $121 a month in energy supply costs. But, for this price, you get 100% renewable energy! And with no additional monthly charges or early termination fees to worry about.

Hack Your Electricity Plan this Spring and Save

With higher PTC rates on the horizon, now is the time to hack your electricity plan.
