Just Energy was founded in 1997 in Canada and has grown into a massive energy conglomerate that service more than 1.8 million customers in North America. They also have the distinction of being the largest competitive green energy retailer in North America.
Just Energy is part of a group of companies that offer natural gas in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, Quebec, British Columbia, New York, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and California, and electricity in Ontario, Alberta, New York, Massachusetts and Texas.
Just Energy has also expressed plans for launching retail service in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, D.C., Rhode Island, Georgia and Delaware.
“ I used to have 4change Energy when I first moved to Katy, Texas and one day I went to SAM's club and they had this rep from Just energy. He got my attention by saying that they could lower the bill and that they offered me free nights. Not knowing anything about the electricity market of TX I decided to go ahead and switch providers since Just Energy was going to pay for the switching fee too from the last provider. Little did I know that when they signed me up for the contract it was at $0.286/kWh and some little charges here and there and little did I know that even though they offer Free Nights from 9pm-6pm, my average bill quickly got to the $300 despite the fact of using about 600-700 kWh during so called "FREE nights". They got me good and now that I am switching to a different provider, they charged me the fee that they reimbursed me, when I first switched to them and also they signed me up for a 3 year contract. I was a fool, but now that I know how to check the Fact Label sheet of every electricity provider, I won't make the same mistake. Please pay attention to these JUST Energy reps and don't let their too good to be true promises get you in a situation where you are paying the highest electricity rate. ”
“ I was pulled in during a visit to a local Kroger. This was the worst decision I've ever made in choosing an energy provider. I HIGHLY recommend you NOT choose this company. The bills are extremely high. I left my previous provider for that reason initially the bills were lower but it was a bait and switch. I live by myself and always turn the thermostat up when I leave my house. My thermostat at night never drops below 73 degrees. Again, do not fall for the pitch the temporary employees are giving you. They do not know how bad this company is. ”
“ I was told all the good things, bill would be much cheaper if I switched over. I have the free nights/weekends etc & my first 2 bills were 200+. I am about 5 months in & my bills are 3-400.00 per month now & I dont get it. Im at work all day, kids in school. Basically just A/c running til we all get home to cook & relax. My bills with reliant were cheaper with the same circumstances. And when we had bad storms in may & July this year, we lost power both times for about a week & bills were still high. I seriously want to cancel my contract ”
“ I was stopped outside Kroger and the salesmen were so helpful and I thought they explained everything. Until I got home and saw the monthly service charges were going to cause me to pay more every month, not save me money. So I called the next day, July 30, to cancel. I canceled within the 7 day period, 2 full weeks prior to my billing cycle starting. And yet, when my August bill arrived, Just Energy was listed as my supplier and my bill was over $200. When I called JE, the rep told me he saw I canceled 7/30, and offered me a $50 gift card emailed to me in response. No! I am not paying for a service I canceled before it went into effect. I was told it was the electric company that was at fault because it could take up to 2 billing cycles to reflect the change. The electric company shows that JE enrolled me Sept 2, and cancelled it Sept 18. How does that even work?! This company is a scam. Save your money and frustration and go somewhere else. ”

1. Use 200 kwh or more LLUS that 1/3 of that had o be between 9 pm and 7 am.
2 We would be charged extra the green energy.
Several bills we were charged $.16 per kwh and when I called to find out was on on I was informed of the above conditions. After weeks of researching providers we changed after receiving a $893 bill for Hey claimed we used 4000 kwh. Without free nights and weekends would have been a $1000 bill.
I was rudely told to do laundry and run the dishwasher a night. I do not own a dishwasher. I was then told to turn the AC up during the day and down at nigh. Great to sweat during the day in 100 degree weather and freeze a night. I do not have central air just window units. It's a single wide mobile home from 1972 with 3 add-ons and only three of here. Not much laundry to do every night. No way we used 4,000 khrs
We switched companies after this and our bill without free nights went down to $387 the first month and his one is even lower $297. ”
“ The way the plan was explained it was nothing Ive received. Prior to this plan my bill was roughly $238.00 a month my first billing came with just Energy was $552, called to cancel and dispute. They way the billing is setup and my carrier bill Ive had 3 cycles total even once canceled. My bill is sitting at a whopping $1458.00 and its nobodys fault BGE or just energy. Im expected to pay and cant get assistance because I dont have a cutoff notice. Talk about pissed!! ”
“ I have been talking to the female sales reps in Midland,Tx. They are offering an in-store promotion (too good to be true). They don't know their product and need proper training. I asked them if the 9.50 cents per Kw is fixed or does it fluctuate. The girl did not know. She had to call someone and finally I got an answer. The promotion of 9.50 cents per Kw fluctuates. She said you can call in after 2 months to get the rate locked in. I said no thank you and walked off. ”

I was with them from March to the end of July. I'm in my 20s, have always enrolled for paperless billing in any and everything that I do. My few months with them, I received only 3 emails, initial request for service, initial account information and final bill. I never received my monthly bills or payment confirmations. Every month I kept submitting request for paper free billing yet never received my bills online. By the time they sent the bills by mail and it made it throughthe USPS system, they were sending a disconnect notice and I was receiving them both the same day or a day apart, resulting in a late fee every month from them because these scammers refused to honor request of paperfree billing!
I have had service terminated with them over 3 weeks ago and yet, they are still adding fees to a final bill from them?? An ACH reject fee(I use the same account to pay every bill and have had that amount almost 2 decades, yet it rejected for them??), and a late fee(I terminated service, I am not with you guys anymore!!)
I will be putting negative reviews everywhere that I can from them and will be reporting them to the public utility commission. ”

Terrible company. Went to them to try to give another company a try when I decided to leave reliant, terrible mistake on my behalf.
Every bit of their business is shady. They do not send confirmations when you pay online. I am in my 20s, I don't enroll for paper billing for anything, yet they never sent my bills paperfree online as requested. I submitted the paperfree request multiple times, because every month I wad late because they did not email the bill! By the time they mailed the bill and it was delivered, the disconnect bill was being delivered the same or next day, adding a damn late fee! I was with them from March, I believe, until the end of July, I received 3 emails from them, the final bill, the initial confirmation that I requested service, and the account information. Not a single monthly bill or payment confirmation.
My service has been ended with them for 3 weeks, yet somehow my final bill is still increasing.
Bills were astronomically high, hard to get on the phone with someone, the bill issues. I was with reliant for 6 years, I believe, honestly didn't have issues with contacting them, receiving or paying bills, confirmation emails, just the bills kept getting higher when you had to renew your contract. I was going to go back to them, but tried green mountain just because the plan I wanted to go back to with reliant was cheaper with green mountain.
Just stay away from Just Energy ”

It has been over two months waiting to receive a refund because a just energy advisor mistakenly switched my service to the completely wrong apartment. I was moving and wanted to make sure my service transferred, but the advisor kept giving me the wrong address, even after I confirmed multiple times that she had the wrong address. She told me everything would be fine. Literally scammed? Did she know what she was doing or was she negligent? Either way, do yourself a favor and use green mountain energy. They are so much better.
In short, Im owed over $450 for energy charges I was paying for an apartment on the complete other side of the city. Now Im trying to call customer service and Ive been in the queue for 45 minutes. I just want a status update, or to know if the refund is also a lie. ”

- Pressure Sales : May 2024 - I was shopping in Sam's club when a Just Energy sales person approached me and talked about switching services. She said I can get 18.9 cent plan with free nights. She followed me while I was shopping and persuaded me to switch service. I already had a contract on my existing plan which will have a 280$ termination charge. She promised JustEnergy will reimburse the early termination fee of my previous provider . She also confirmed that this JustEnergy plan will not have any termination fees for cancelling.
Incorrect Information and false promises : After enrolling I noticed I have been charged at 28.6 cents. I called Just energy and they referred me to EFL which has a thin line print. The sales person never explained to me the additional 10 cent delivery charges. I followed up on my reimbursement of termination charges. They reimbursed only 150$ out of the 280$ termination fee citing that there is a limit for the reimbursement. This was also not informed.
Sticker Shock - Realizing the high charges between June and July. I decided to switch to a new service provider. Once I switched I got a call from Just Energy that I have a cancellation charge of 175$. In addition they are charging back the 150$ reimbursement that was promised and paid by them. ”
“ Never has my bill been this high! $500 for a monthly bill and I was with no electricity from Hurricane Beryl for 6 days. I tried to chat with someone concerning this issue and no help at all. If you don't pay you're bill on time, they will either turn off your electricity or charge you $20 fee for not paying it 2 days after the due date! I do not recommend this electricity company ever. Don't make a mistake by contracting with them. ”
“ Lies and false sales pitches. Dated July 5th, 2024. A salesmen [Cody] arrives on my doorstep giving his pitch for Just Energy free weekends plan. Explained that it wasnt just free but also a credit against the other 115 hours of the week. Lies it is only a credit against itself the remainder is full price no exceptions. Also claimed no free nights plan. Also lies, there is one from 9pm-7am. Also lied about there being no early termination if I was unsatisfied for any reason. Of course he signed me up for 36 months and to leave is minimum $175. Do not join Just Energy! You will not save any money and will find it to be an expensive lesson. The customer support was at the least Honest and was well aware that the plan was terrible and advised me seek out better providers for my situation. ”

The salesperson came to my home and said he could get me a better rate, which he did, but my bill was still high because of delivery charges. My last company had a higher rate, but delivery charges were not more than 7 dollars. Example is below.

I was told at Sam's club when I signed up that there wasn't an early cancellation fee for Sam's club members. I also called customer service for Just Energy. Customer service also told me that there was no early cancellation fee for Sam's club members. What a lie. I paid my last bill and I paid the $150 they credited me for early termination of my other electric company. I only had 2 days left in my other contract. Lol yes I wasn't thinking in the middle of grocery shopping. So no my early cancellation fee for Just Energy is in collection for a $183. I always pay my bills on time. Why should I pay something I shouldn't had too. ”
