2nd year Renewal with large increase and no renewal notice

(1.2 / 5)

I signed up with a competitive low rate only to be renewed the 2nd year at a much higher rate without a renewal notice or option to opt out. The company gave me 3 days to renew - but never sent a letter or email so it took me a month to notice the increase on my electric bill. Customer service was mediocre and did not care much, giving me a different story about the renewal the three times I called. Was able to cancel but only after a month or two on the lower rate.

Do your research

(1.2 / 5)

A very nice person came to the door today saying a lot of stuff has been coming out in the mail, but that they understand customers have not been reading their mail. I am interested in going green, but know enough to beware. I promised to research this - which I just did. If I switched to the plan I was looking at, my cost per kWh would have increased from about 6 cents to 10 cents. Obviously, I am not doing that. Other information on the web indicates that the cost should be the same or lower. So I am definitely NOT impressed by Inspire Energy.

Lied, said they were AEP.

(1.2 / 5)

Got tricked by a door to door guy. Said he was with AEP and I Shiism en expecting a refined for being overcharged- he never once mentioned Inspire. He took my account number, and left. I was switched over to their service, at their rates, without even knowing it. When I caught it, I switched out- and they canceled my switch and switched me back to them. I then called them directly and told them what happened, and I have since filed with BBB and PUCO and they have followed up. If this happens to you, Id recommend getting the BBB and PUCO involved.

I just remembered why I don't answer my door anymore

(1.2 / 5)

Lot of fancy talk to get you to verify on the spot. No clear way I could find to cancel. If someone from Inspire comes knocking, politely ask for literature so you can decide after researching. It felt like a scam with a lot of half truths. People like this give renewable energy a bad rap.

dont fall for it! its a scam!

(1.2 / 5)

a representative from inspire energy approached me and my boyfriend at giant eagle about 8 months ago now and told us signing up with them would add no extra cost to our monthly energy bill and all it would do was tell the illuminating company that we advocate for greener energy. a few months goes by and we notice our energy bill had gone up $30 more a month. we shrugged it off as it being winter and needing to use more energy. my boyfriend did a little more digging and found that contrary to what they had told us, inspire energy was charging us an extra $30 a month. he called to cancel and the customer service person, instead of canceling the bill, attempted to sign us up for the cheaper option which was $7 less a month. do not trust them they are all about scams and lies!!

Stay away, Shady electric company

(1.2 / 5)

They tricked me into their plan with door to door sales person and pressure tactic. I initially got lower rates for first 3 months, but later they switched me into their higher rate plan. Customer service sucks. I somehow managed to get rid of them.

Billing scam

(1.2 / 5)

I signed up with inspire in late 2017. My rate was comparable to National Grid, slightly higher. One the course of the following 12 months, rates increased by 50% in several steps. Along the way I complained, rates were adjusted down only to go up again later. Net 50% increase over a period of 12 months. I threatened to cancel, they offered me a fixed rate slightly lower as current but knowing that rates usually go down over the summer months that rate would be very high. So I cancelled. They told me it will take one or two billing cycles to execute my shift back to National Grid. I now received the bill for the first of those two "billing cycle". Their rate increase again by about 15%! So they really take advantage of me. I can only warn to get in business with this company. We all want to do the right thing for the environment but that does not mean that we have to accept scams!

100% cost increase in 1 month

After 3 years of use, out of nowhere they started charging 100% more right as Christmas arrives. No warning or heads up.

SCAM COMPANY - LIARS and THIEVES

(1 / 5)

My bill went up double with no notice (500 dollars) when I went to switch to another supplier, Inspire blocked it, and lied about it. They claim they have no record but the Electric company has a record, the new supplier has a record, and I have records, plus a phone call from Inspire asking why I was leaving. When I called to ask them why they were still my supplier, they lied several times on the call (the story changed), and I escalated and still have not gotten a call back. Reading these reviews, we need a class action lawsuit

Do they take me for a fool?

(1 / 5)

Signed up 12 months ago fort clean-source energy at 11.99 cents per kwh. Renewal came for an absolutely absurd 19.99 cents per kwh with 5 1/2 pages of terms and conditions. They are clearly trying to exploit people who don't check their mail carefully.

Inspire Clean Energy is a "rip-off"

(1 / 5)

I was told that they would lower my electric bill but, in fact, they have been charging me 3 times what my previous aggregate company was charging me. I would never have agreed to switch if I had known this.

SCAMMERS!!!!

(1 / 5)

I never signed up for this and I had no knowledge of this company!!! You dont need a 3rd party for your electric. I just moved into my place and my electric bill is very low even in this summer heat my bill was only $200 and thats with everything on and running so this next month I received a new bill and its saying I owe $1200 and 90% of that amount is for new inspire supply charges smh remind you I NEVER signed up for anything or authorize any other company! So i called Pepco and they said I have to call inspire so I had to google the number because I didnt even know what company it is and when I contacted them they told me I had to email a copy of bill because they dont even see an account for me smh so now Im waiting for a manager to remove the charges from my bill and to call me back! These people are scammers and whoever decided to go with them I hope and pray you dont have to pay that amount for supply charges so for anyone please avoid this company and also look at your bill to see if there is a difference in the amount of charges.

Higher Energy Costs After Signing With Inspire

(1 / 5)

I was told my electric bill would be less. All it did was increase by the amount of the Inspire monthly fee which started at $54.99 and jumped to $294.99! When I called Inspire about the new charge, they lowered it to $159.99 for 12 months. I cancelled on January 18, prior to the "auto-renewal" of January 24. I was still billed for two months after the cancellation due to "THEIR billing cycle"! How convenient for them!!! March, I was charged $189.99. So that is $159.99 and $189.99 that I will never get back. How is this legal?

Liars and Thieves. Avoid at all costs.

(1 / 5)

Horrible company. A representative of Inspire knocked on my door and lied to my face, saying that they represented my cities electric company. He also lied and said that my payment would be the same each month. Based on other reviews, this seems to be pretty common. Once I found out what happened and saw that they quickly adjusted the monthly fee they were charging me, I called and canceled my agreement. I thought all was fine until I received a renewal notice in the mail. Turns out, they didn't cancel my account when I asked. They continued charging me for over a year. I've never had a company be so dishonest. Avoid at all costs.

Inspire energy robbed my identity and signed me up on a plan

(1 / 5)

I left my phone at a shell gas station were a sales rep for inspire was working . I had no password on my phone which i have changed after this experience and now have password on my phone. They took my info signed me up on a ridiculous plan at 27 cents a kil which my normal plan with my provider is 10 cents a kil, i did not know any of this was happening until i received my bill. I looked into it further through inspire and found out i was signed up from rep at shell gas station on the same day i left my phone at fuel pump. rep illegally signed me up on a ridiculously expensive plan by stealing my identity . I had to contact my electric provider cancel out inspire and go back to provider I had. The difference in 2 months of billing from them amounted to 1046.11. For weeks they have said they apologize and will send a check for difference, check never came and then my 2nd time talking to them they told me they sent check for 342$ no where near they amount that they owe me. I have contacted the attorney general and a Lawyer to file criminal charges and civil charges. If anybody has experienced the same situation I would advise you do the same.

Scam operation

(1 / 5)

Steer clear of inspire clean energy! They are a scam and will increase your rates 2 to 3 times as they did me. They approached me at BJs with an offer of a free gift card to take a quick survey. Sales person without my knowledge or consent signed me up for service. Totally fraudulent company to do this to people.

Avoid this company!

(1 / 5)

When I initially signed up, I was promised that my rate would be only slightly higher than my current provider and that in paying "slightly" more, that I would be supporting clean energy. My rate increased, without notice, to double the rate. I am now paying more than double my electricity consumption for their delivery services. Of course, in order to cancel, one must wait several billing cycles while paying astronomical amounts to this company. This company's practices are fraudulent!

LIES . . . NOTHING BUT LIES

(1 / 5)

Representative, Anika, flat out lied to me several times in Giant Eagle stating I would not fully become a customer unit I PROVIDE my account number. Big fat lie. 9 days later I get a welcome email without providing any additional information whatsoever. She stood there and had me go through the screens one by one stating SEVERAL TIMES THAT IT WAS OKAY & NOTHING CAN GO THROUGH WITHOUT ME PROVIDING MY ACCOUNT NUMBER.
