Inspire has come to my apartment complex multiple times. They lie and use aggressive sales tactics to make it seem like you will save money. I fell for it in January and signed up. When my bill doubled, I immediately canceled. Last weekend, they came back and tried the same thing again.
The reps talked insanely fast and gave vague answers to simple questions. I asked multiple times if they were trying to get me to switch suppliers to which they said no. When I asked what company they were from they said "Energy Choice", which is not a company, it's the program that allows you to shop different suppliers. They would not leave when I said I was not interested in their service. They insisted I was already a customer of theirs, and that they were simply there to "update" my plan. I showed them my paperwork from my current supplier, but they tried to say the new rates they were "updating" would mean cheaper bills since I used a certain amount of energy each month. This ended up being a lie, too.
None of it was making sense to me and in my confusion, I almost gave in to the pressure again. The last step of sign up is a 3rd party verification over the phone. The reps made me put the phone on speaker. The verifier asked if the salespeople had left the premises. They hadn't - they were right next to me coercing me to say "yes". Then the verifier asked if I consented to switching suppliers, at which point I insisted the reps leave and told the verifier I did not consent. I only wish I had done the same thing in January. ”
“ Got a flat rate plan. No notice of it expiring when I bought it. Expired and they jumped the rate exponentially. Got all their money plus some for the original purchase. Stay away!!! ”
“ I just had a sales person come to my home and lie about PECO no longer supplying my energy and that Inspire is the company that supplies it now. When asking questions to understand why a person was visiting my home to discuss this, they could not answer. This is incredibly deceptive. These clean energy companies are much more expensive than PECO and you don't get to choose who supplies your energy, even if you do sign up for these companies to be your suppliers. ”
“ I was approached by 2 guys telling me they were from MY POWER COMPANY, West Penn Power, going door to door throughout my neighborhood trying to "Fix" the power bills. They CLAIMED that our Power company had been charging us all 3 different prices per KW for the past few months and they were going to be giving refunds along with a fixed rate of .10cent per KW. They knew that I knew nothing about how these bills get calculated and fed off that! They promised a cheaper bill starting with the next cycle and I unfortunately believed their lies! I'm a disabled single mother of 3, my current bill was hard enough to pay, now my new bill has an EXTRA charge, by Inspire for $110!!! These people scam and LIE to people, feeding off the ignorance of those who only look at the bills balance and pay. DON'T LET THEM FOOL YOU!! THEY NEED TO BE SHUT DOWN!!! I WILL be contacting BBB about this and I urge everyone they scammed to do so as well!! ”
“
Total scam.
Signed up after stopping to give my time to a rep at a kiosk in a Giant Eagle grocery store.
I just trusted that it was a legit business because they were allowed to setup shop.
I was told that Id be saving money converting from Ohio Edison. Turns out, Inspire is twice the cost. Called four days prior to the start date of my contract to cancel and was told that Id still be responsible for 1-2 billing cycles.
Ohio Edison said they had no control over this. ”
“ They charge about 60% more than constellation! They said it would be less. Liars! ”
“
A rep from this company opened an account in my name without my permission and stole hundreds of dollars. After reading other reviews, this seems like their standard practice
If you're able, please report them to the FTC to prevent this from happening to others. It's a really quick and easy process

“ This company is a scam and organized criminals. They contacted me years ago offering me a flat rate energy saying I will save money and I fell for it. I recently talked to a lady at the public utilities commission of Ohio that informed me that I had overpaid for service every single month and never saved a penny. I warn you to do your homework and avoid this scam at all costs! Flat rate sounds great but they make sure they always get paid! Avoid at all costs! ”
“ Basically the same thing as everyone else has already said. Got approached in BJ's about having cheap clean energy and a month later got an almost $400 bill when my usage in the past 2 years averaged between $66 to $90 a month. Called the first time and they said they would see what they could do for me about refunding the outrageous amount and never got back to me then 4 days later I get a letter in the mail stating my new rate is over $300 a month. I called back and asked what they were going to do about my almost $400 bill and they pretend that they said that they already said I cannot be refunded then realized by the call log that they did promise that they will look into it for me and just said that they are sorry but that representative was wrong and they have a no refund policy. I asked her how would she feel if she was in my position on a budget and now facing a payment 4 months worth of electricity and she didn't say anything. I asked who will pay the late fees every month since I wouldn't be able to pay all at once she said she is sorry but they can't do anything about it. They basically charged me almost $1 per KW and I'm stuck with the bill. I guess now I'll just have to leave $400 worth of bad reviews on every possible platform on the internet. Stay away from these people. ”
“ FO NOT SIGN UP TO THIS!!! DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT!!! THEY CHARGE WAY MORE THAN OWN ELECTRIC COMPANY!!! ”
“ They made my bill jump $300 ”
“ They changed my carrier to them without my permission! ”
“ Woman at my door stating my electric and gas supplier sent her to review my services and I should have received something on the mail from my utility companies. Told me I needed to show her my utility bills and I asked why and she said because your utility company sent me to review them. I asked her for ID And she had a lanyard with Inspire on it but no permit from the city. PLUS I have a no soliciting sign on my door. I told her I was not interested but she insisted the utility company wanted her to be at my house. I told her to leave and she blew me a kiss as she left. ”
“ I ended up paying more with inspire. Very deceitful company ”
“ I agreed with a flat bill. The flat bill went up after 2 months and was about $20/month higher than what PSEG would have charged. I figured is Ok since is flat billing and during summer will cost more. In July they start charging $0.24/KWH while PSEG would have been $0.13/KWH. ”
“ Talked my husband into get inspire energy even though my name is on the account. He was told it didnt matter as long as he had the account number. I kept watching my bill go up and had no clue why until the light company told me inspire been charging me 200.00 a month. ”
“ I signed up for 3 months at $94.99 per month. They would not tell me what the renew rate would be. After about one month they sent me a renew notice for around $360 / month - automatic renew. I notified them and said I did not want to renew and so they stopped my service about 2 months early. I asked them to keep our agreement for the 3 month period, but they said they could not do that. My final bill was a little higher than it should have been. This is a RIPE OFF !!!! ”
“ I was conned into trying this company by a salesperson in BJS..was promised it was only to get pricing information yet looks like they already started my account without my consent!! Bge dropped us and now they want us to pay TWICE the amount we did before! INSANITY they want $419.99 a month I will be fighting this and telling everyone I know to stay away from your company. Bad business practice and feel like Ive been conned into something I could never AFFORD ”
“ They offer a very low introductory monthly fee (regardless of usage) for the first couple of months and then a higher fixed monthly fee thereafter (again regardless of usage). They base this fee on an estimate of your average monthly usage after looking at your utility bill. I was aware that I was paying more than what my local utility was charging, but was willing to pay a little more for "clean" energy. The catch is that after a total of 12 months doing business with them, they switch you to an exorbitant metered KWH rate without any advance notice (NJ law apparently doesn't require them to tell you about this!). Shame on me for not staying on top of this! When I realized I was being charged an outrageous amount (3x the metered KWH rate charged by my local utility!), I got another nasty surprise: it takes a couple of billing cycles to get rid of them. This 2 month window alone cost me almost $650 over what my utility provider would've charged me! Don't fall for this bait and switch scam like I did! ”
“ I was at BJs and a rep came up to promote their plan. I pulled up my previous bill to view the rates I was currently paying. He showed his chart that listed what I would be paying with Inspire. I rate was lower than I currently was paying. So, I signed up. Got my bill and it was more than double the rate that I was expecting. Shame on BJs for allowing these people to accost their customers. ”
