Just Energy was founded in 1997 in Canada and has grown into a massive energy conglomerate that service more than 1.8 million customers in North America. They also have the distinction of being the largest competitive green energy retailer in North America.
Just Energy is part of a group of companies that offer natural gas in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, Quebec, British Columbia, New York, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and California, and electricity in Ontario, Alberta, New York, Massachusetts and Texas.
Just Energy has also expressed plans for launching retail service in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, D.C., Rhode Island, Georgia and Delaware.
“ I signed up for 1 rate ( 6.69) and an getting charged for a much higher rate (8.29). I've called Just energy twice and get the run around and double talk. My service provider tried to call them directly ( while I was on hold ) and they HUNG UP on him. I don't know what to do. ”

On 11/13/19, I received PA Ratings conformation, Just Energy (JE) would be my energy supplier for 12 months at 06.6900 cents/kwh.
On 11/19/19 I received a letter from Duquesne Light Company (DL) identifying Just Energy as my supplier effective 11/22/19 at a price of 08.69 cents/kwh.
On 11/21/19 I received a form letter from JE identifying the price to be 08.6900 cents/kwh.
I have received two bills from Duquesne Light (last 12/29/19) both with the 08.6900 cents/kwh price.
I called Just Energy right after I receive the Duquesne Light letter to complain about the price change. They said they would check into it. The women called me back and said it would be changed to the 06.69 cent price for the next billing. After I received the second DL bill with the higher price, I called Just Energy. This time a man (Allen) said they are aware of it and will let me know. Prior to this call, I contacted the PUC to complain about JE.
The PUC had contacted JE to investigating my complaint.
As of this writing, I have not received any notice of adjustment from either DL or JE. ”
“ The rate that was listed on PA Energy was 6.39. The rate they charged me was 8.29. I spend a few hours and calls getting them to agree to charge me the 6.39 that was listed on PA Energy. My bill came and I was charged 8.29. More time and calls and I was told that was the taxes. Every other supplier I have used (and I check the rates and switched whenever my contract is up and there is a lower rate) has had the taxes included in the rate that advertise. I have switched again. ”

The sales person in Sam's Club claimed the TDSP delivery charge was included in the energy charge. Since this is unusual, but not impossible, I asked about 5 different ways to try to see how she was tricking me. But why trick when you can just lie? She did trick me when I asked to see it in writing, but I was able to rescind my contract.
3 stars to customer service for being honest, but only 3 because they wouldn't accept "other written communication" and I had to scan the official form.
So the rates were alost 33% higher than PROMISED. ”

“ Changed my service without permission. Very dishonest salesman spoke with my disabled son and changed account to Just Energy under my sons name. Extremely dishonest and unprofessional to take advantage of a disabled young man with NO means to pay an electric bill for his mothers home. Salesman "Matthew" told several times that he could not make changes and would give info to mother when she returned from work. Using this as a learning tool for son about dishonest salespeople!!! ”

This AM I get an email from AEP telling me my generation provider was changing next month. I call Just Energy to find out why.. 1st time calling... 1st Im told I switched providers... no, Im placed on hold. Then Im told my credit score wasnt good enough. They never checked my score, not even when I signed up almost 2 yrs ago. Then Im told my state and government decided Im not eligible for services.. At this point I hysterically laugh at the woman and tell her I use to work for an electric company and they cant do that, If she doesnt know what shes talking about thats fine I want a supervisor. She schedules me a call back for 24 to 48 hours.
I then write an email detailing all of this to see if that gets me somewhere faster. A few hours later I get a response stating Im behind in my bill and thats breach of contract. So I get on the aep app and screenshot my account history showing Im up to date and bill not even due until 10/11.
I call again. Only thing they could do is put in a request to stay on current plan that account has been proven to be current. This may take up to 2 months to be approved, but as of my next billing cycle with aep 10/23 there is going to be a change. So how does this help?

“ I never experience such pathetic customer service in my life and when you try hard to understand the agent they are not willing to help you. I also learned you can not pay them online for your monthly billing because they fail to provide you their complete zip code so your bank can't pay the bill. They are forcing you to make a phone payment to charge you $5.00 for the billing transaction. They didn't try to fix your concerns/problems but they are more concern to charge you more money.I would never recommend joining the Just Energy unless you love Headache. ”

“ Company offers decent rates but if a payment is late, for whatever reason, you get bombarded with late payment notices and collection notices. When speaking to anyone from the collections department dont expect any real help besides scripted answers from the company and from someone who barely speaks English. We do not want to make payments late but sometimes life happens and it would be nice if a company actually tried to help or give you honest answers versus a scripted response and no help. ”

I had my power cut off (even though I made the agreed upon payment!), and for the filling 6 hours, was insulted, lied to, given the run around, and hung up on by OVER HALF A DOZEN AGENTS! My husband asked for a supervisor, and when asked why, he said he disagreed with the amount. He was told that wasn't a valid reason, that he was being rude, and then he was hung up on. I have been communicating with this company for the past 2 weeks about the ABUSE that we suffered. Now I am being told that things happened a different way (essentially, I'm lying) and the case was closed. This company over charged me 175 for a termination fee, after I informed the rep that the bill was too high and that I was leaving.
But because the rep didn't enter or document the call as " caller is terminating", they said that I didn't notify them properly. Additionally, I wasn't allow the HEAR the recorded call that they had on file. But I had to take their word that I didn't notify them correctly. Total BS. FYI, if someone calls to complain about HIGH RATES, then proceeds to say, this is TOO high, I'm finding another provider.. Guess what, that is notification that they are leaving. It's not my fault your rep misread HER script and didn't give me her sales pitch of, " well I can lower your rate".
Do not trust this company, they are the worse. ”
“ An agent came by and sold me Just Energy promised me the account would not be taken over from my old company until my contract with them expires which was 8-8 or 8-9. Just Energy took over before then which caused me to be billed a $135.00 early termination fee. They refuse to reimburse me because I cancelled my service with them. They say the only way I would get back that fee is if I would have remained with them or switched back to my previous provider. Just because I went to another provider that should not mean that I can not get my money back- They took over illegally. Now I have to fight this crap. Just Energy Just Sucks. I would not give that one if there was a lesser option. ”
“ Short and sweet i signed up for a renewal was promised the same rate as previous plan, agent even stated it back to me. Now four moths later they are charging me double on what i signed up for. I am still fighting they continue to tell me they made an error but will not refund the difference back to me. My advice STAY AWAY!!!! ”
“ The sales reps of Just Energy were going door-to-door selling their services. The rep was very thoroug in explaining their service to me and told me that their service will replace PG&E that I will be paying only $16.99 a month and can use all the gas and as much as I want and my bill not increase at all. Also, I will not see from PGE annymore; all bills will be coming from Just Energy. Being on disability, I thought it was a great deal and it would help save $$$ on a monthly basis. Being on a fixed income, every penny makes a difference to people like us. Upon receiving my first bill in November from PGE, the total amount was Just Energy portion of 16.99 and PGE monthly amount. I contacted PG&E and was told that they had nothing to do with Just Energy and their services and that I will have to continue to pay PGE what they bill on a monthly basis, in addition to whatever else Just Energy bills me. I called Just Energy and besides being extremely rude and unprofessional, I was told to just ignore the portion of the Just Energy billing and continue to pay PGE. I told him that's not how it works and I have to pay the entire bill. His response was "I don't know what to tell you". Asked to speak to a supervisor, none was available. Left my name and # for a call back, nothing. Asked to cancel my account and he said he couldn't and a supervisor has to do it!!! Nothing happened! Called a few more times, no response. In March I called again and had to make threats of reporting them to FTC, BBB and my local channel and finally they cancelled my account and also for a refund for all the months I had paid them. On March 20, 2019, I received a cancellation letter from Mark Eddings, Sr. VP, Regional General Mngr. I sent them another letter on July 2, 2019 asking for my refund because what they did was so very wrong and didn't deliver what was promised and misled everyone about their service, To date have not heard a word from them. This company is a big fruad and crooked and their reps are just as crooked and unethical. After everything that I have gone through, they sent me an email "You just got 500 Perks points"! and asked for a survery and how they are doing!!!! This is the complaint sent to FTC ”
“ I was in my local Sam's Club and was stopped by one of there representatives. I was told the base rate being offered was 13.8 cents/kw She told me I would never see that due to the free evenings, and my average rate would be closer between 8.5 and 9.0 cents/kw. As we proceeded with the digital process, she showed me key pages seeming to confirm the base rate was 13.8 cents/kw with credit for usage during evenings between 9pm-7am. I verbally reiterated all this back to her to be sure I understood the offer and she confirmed I was correct.When I get the paperwork, low and behold, the base rate is actually 20.8 cents/kw and the estimated average will be the 13.8 cents/kw - NOT A GOOD RATE AT ALL. My first bill confirmed the 20.8 cents/kw and with my credit for evenings the average rate was over 14 cents/kw ”
