“ NRG sells you the systems, then sells off the lease contract to Spruce Power. NRG passes on servicing and customer is stuck with a Spruce Power who does nothing, no return calls, no emails. Makes one thing that about the relationship. In the end , customer and consumer are screwed. ”
“ Not enough time to accurately be able to assess ”
“ Got bill sent check. Got letter and check that their equipment couldnt read my pen. Really no way to handle that? No direction on what to do? I called got answering machi e that cant understand english. Got offer to be called back and after many requirements still didnt call ne back. Worst experience ever. Id rather deal with Comcast than this compant ”
“ They did not save me a penny!!! In March and April 2020 DPL's prices was 4.4 cents /KwH. NRG charged me 10.4 cents per kWh and 11.5 cents in April. If you want to save money DO NOT USE NRG!!! ”

“ Signed up and rep was nice, customer service is nice but if you are in a variable rate agreement you better check your rates closely. Got the rate I signed up for 2 months and then it went up 23% in month 3 and another 16% in month 4....really!!!!! I beleive this company just takes advance of people. Still with the utility providers, at least they have to justify their rates with the public utility commission! ”
“ I dont know how these folks sleep at night, honestly. My elderly mom who is on a fixed income got talked into switching to this company while she was shopping in Walmart because they were touting supporting renewable energy solutions and she wanted to be a good citizen and support that. Long story short, that shopping trip cost her a total of $541.09 over the past 10 months. Her most recent electric bill for her modest 1500 square foot home was for $826.25 for one month!! I looked at what the default utility rate on that bill was and she paid $352.89 MORE ON ONE BILL than she would have had she not switched. These folks are predatory criminals. They should be ashamed! ”
“ Received an offer for a $75 Rebate. They only sent a $50 rebate and I had to contact them over and over to get the additional $25. Took them about 3-4 days to get back to me via email each time. i shouldn't have to chase them down like this. ”
“ I signed up for a variable rate which was fine. However with out adving their rate went from $0.10 to 0.19/kw. ”
“
I was with them for a year and had pretty competitive rates, but apparently I didnt renew so they doubled my p/kwh. I called to cancel and they offered me another competitive rate, but they effectively wiped out any savings Id had for the year by doubling my rate for 3 months.
Its a pretty dirty business model. Dont use them. ”
“ They seem to have no renewable options, meaning they mostly use the most polluting source of energy such as coal. Their sales tactics are despicable. And, if you compare electric rates, they are not competitive. ”
“ They doubled my bill without warning. They told me that once the promo is over that the price would potentially go up to market value. Doubling isnt market value. Scummy business practice ”
“ They were charging me double the rate of ComEd. Highest bills Ive ever had. Offered a option of a rate freeze for 3 months that takes 2 billing cycles to see.umm, what??!? ”
“
Singed up at Walmart NRG service for a three-month contract. Since I had paperless billing and auto-pay, didn't pay much attention to the billing details. Due to the onset of Winter, thought that the high billing was due to the high usage of gas heating.
But when I checked the billing statements for the last few months, realized they have increased the gas rates from 38 to 92 as I didn't renew the contract. I was royally screwed on an average of $125 per month.
When I called customer service, they tried to give me a credit of $30. Even if I want to renew the contract, the new offered price of 38 won't be effective until 1-2 billing cycles which is ridiculous. So they want me to spend another $250 more when compared to PECO. If I want to cancel the service, again the same story - 1-2 billing cycles.
So don't fall for the NRG reps trying to lure you to sign up. STAY away from NRG. ”
“ I signed up at Walmart and received a gift card, not realizing the rate offered was only valid for 3 months. Since I pay my electric bill with autopay, I never really paid attention to the cost of electricity. I signed at a rate of 0.07 per kwh. After 3 months, I come to learn now that they raised my rate to 0.09 per kwh. Within a year, I was up to 0.12 per kwh, nearly double. When I asked why this was done, they said because I did not call them back to lock in for an extended rate. I asked if it was due to utility pricing and they said no. They raised the rate because they could, not because energy prices went up. They can raise your rate 30% in one month if they choose and you do not lock in a set rate. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE ”
“ Im not usually one to fall for the people at Walmart. But times were tough when they found me. Saving money and I dont have to do much? Sure! They failed to tell me that the rate I was given only last 3 months. Apparently it was in the 3 pages of the tiniest font terms I received. I only called once to get my rate lowered. The next time I asked to cancel. Apparently that takes months too. Ive called 4 times to get it cancelled and finally had to ask them to send me a letter confirming it. Just got the letter today stating my electric provider will start being my main source in 30 days. On Dec they charged me $108, my electric company would have charged me $55. ”
“ I was told after 3 months, the plan would automatically stop unless I contacted them to renew. Big mistake! NRG automatically enrolled me in a 6 month plan and my electric bill DOUBLED!! ”
“ I have been an NRG customer for several years now and truly regret ever doing business with them! Anytime I have a problem and need to reach out to their customer service it is a long and aggravating process. I have to keep calling over and over and cannot reach the person that is supposed to be assisting me. I hate constantly being told that they will email the person that is handling my claim rather than being able to speak to him or her directly. And needless to say no one ever calls me back. NRG has absolutely no clue what good customer service is about. ”
“
I wanted central Air for the summers but the salesman; Ziv, talked me into getting a heater as well.. My heater was doing great and was only six years old. But the smooth talking salesman got me to order heating as well.
I am 80 years old and get cold easily.
Where I sit is right in front of a floor vent. When ever the heat goes on, there is a blast of cold air right at me.
They sent a specialist to check the heater and after checking it out he said I should shut down the vent. WHAT? My old heater was fine, now Im freezing.
NEVER TRUST this company or Ziv the salesman.
I would pay to have my old heater back, it worked perfectly. ”
“ I signed up for a limited time (3 months) discounted rate. I knew that my rate would go up, but not to DOUBLE the price of Duke energy! Not to mention, NRG did not even honor the first three month discount. My rates started systematically hiking after just two months until I was paying nearly double what I would have been paying with Duke. I'm embarrassed that I did not look at my rates earlier as I had a feeling this would turn out bad. Of course, I could not look at my rates because there does not appear to be any sort of online account that gives me this sort of transparency. I was also on hold with their support center for way too long, but that's what you'd expect out of a company like this. ”
