“ Was in kroger today minding my own business and this guys says hello I say it back and he tried to get me to acknowledge switching my aes for this company without reading anything. He kept saying scroll to the bottom NOPE I READ THINGS... It said by saying yes you acknowledge to switch over to this company. So I tell him I will not until I get home to read it he then gets an attitude and says we'll it expires in 5 mins so you can't. No thank you I do not sign things without reading it bit nice try . ”
“ We signed up with these scam artists at our local walmart where they are offering a gift card to switch. Since signing up we had 2 decent bills and the rest have been double what we were paying before. Its bad enough when large energy suppliers are screwing over their customers then you get companies like this one coming out promising lower bills and in the end they are worse then the big companies. Absolute garbage company and now I feel bad for the people we talked into switching and will not tell another soul to do so. ”
“ I was confronted by a salesman in Walmart and without telling me what all is involved he had me switched to their service and didnt even tell me that it is more expensive than my current provider. ”
“ NRG sent an offer for a $75 rebate. Only received $50. I have been trying to get the additional $25 for 3 weeks so far. Keep going back and forth with their customer service. JUST SEND THE CHECK YOU OWE ME. ”
“ Here goes. I was a previous customer of NRG and canceled my account as of July 2019 to go with a different alternate supplier. With prices rising again, I decided in June 2022 to look for yet another alternate supplier. I decided to go back to nrg, whose plans and promotions looked favorable. Called customer service on June 7th and re-enrolled. After I went through the whole process on the phone, I was transferred to a third party verification source, which I understand is common in the industry. The third party verification representative wanted to know what name was on my account for my main supplier. I responded that I couldn't remember if my middle name was included or not and to wait a moment while I checked my last statement. She hung up. So I called NRG back and asked if the non-verification meant that I was not enrolled. Apparently, that's exactly what it DID mean, so I went through the whole process again with the NRG representative and with the third party verification representative. At this time, I was provided a confirmation number by the NRG representative and a verification number by the third party. I didn't hear from NRG after that and only called back on July 18th after a letter in the mail from my current alternate supplier that my rate was changing in August. I figured I had better double check with NRG about the enrollment process. Despite the fact that I provided a confirmation number and a verification number, I was told that I was not enrolled and that they didn't know the reason why. So, at that point, I spoke with another representative from NRG, who typed out the entire explanation of this episode and forwarded it to a support team at nrg. He gave me an "issue number" as a reference to use in confirming that I was enrolled from that point. He assured me that I would be. I thought I would give it a few days and call again to be sure, which I did on July 21st. Lo and behold, I was told by the representative that the support team responded to the representative, and ONLY the representative, not to ME: "the customer has to re-enroll!". JFC... what did they think I had been TRYING to do for the last 6 weeks? I was so annoyed when I spoke to the representative on July 21st that I'm afraid I used an expletive to describe an activity that is anatomically not possible. (). And I immediately called another alternative supplier and enrolled with them, cuz it is evident to me that NRG doesn't know its ass from Page 9. ”
“ I wish I would've looked in the reviews before signing up. They try to entice with saving money and a gift card after your first three months. I was naive and signed up and that was a BIG mistake. I did save a few cents my first 3 months but it was literally cents and I received my giftcard for being a member. This winter I started getting $200-$300 outrageous electric bills for a 1 bdr apartment. I immediately called another electric company and found out theyre changing ridiculous amounts for kilowatt and the company I called told me my bill would've been over $100 less without them. This is a total scam! Buyer beware. NRG offered to adjust my bill if I stayed with them but since I decided to cancel it was a big F you you're stuck with this outrageous bill. ”
“ did not save me anyting in 2 months. one was dead on arrival.if you try to contact them all you get is Not Found for their web page ”
“ They did not save me a penny but costed me hundreds of dollars. The last bill I paid, it was 10.5 Cents per KWH versus AES rates are 4.8 cents per hour. I won't even give them a single star. They are big company but they do not have any ethics. 218.75% more then AES. I will never recommend this company to any body. ”
“ I ran into a young lady at Walmart that convinced me to switch over after showing me how much money they could save me. My bill was about the same (everything they "saved" me in electric fees they made up for in rider charges). I was fine with this, since I couldn't tell a difference in the total amount I was paying. After 6 months my bills shot up hundreds of dollars more than what I was paying before (comparing to the same months last year). When I finally had 2 straight bills over $700, I had to call and cancel. Be prepared for looooong wait times if you try to call and cancel. ”
“ Last year in December 2018 some nice lady was stop me on some cinema place about promoting nrg , and if Im interested to switch, because price was ok and even lower than ComEd, I was switch to nrg, of course she forgot to mention one important thing, like must call nrg every 3 months to negotiate price of Elektryk...??!! After one year of reaping me off I was checking my last bill something is to high and of course price was double than ComEd !!! After calling customer service everything was explaining to me , what a shame it was to late of this , when I was decided to cancel and switch to ComEd they told me this will keep them 1-2 service before this will happen!!! Plus they will charge me even more before this will happen!!! Thank you nrg for this scam !!! ”
“ This is a scam designed for regular people to forget to call when their plan expires. Then they simply double your rate!!! 30% increase per month. It's amazing that this is legal!!! ”
“ I went from paying $0.05 a KWH to 0.12! Make sure you are paying attention when the promotional rate it over! ”
“ We were approached in Sams Club and the lady basically forced us to sign up. She pulled my phone out of my hand and had me tell her the numbers to put in to dial the number so that we could call customer service to our energy provider. We didnt even give her permission yet that we wanted to switch and she immediately called them after speaking with them. She assured us that we were going to save a whole bunch of money and we were going to get a gift card from Sams Club. None of these were true. We got to the checkout and our gift card never arrived. Checking the comments I see that is a common theme. We got our first bill and it was double what we normally pay. Our bill usually runs about $250. Our first bill ran over $500. The next bill was nearly $600 and every bill since then has been right around five and $600 consistently when it used to run right around $250 There has been absolutely no savings. When we went to cancel the person on the phone was pushy and insisted on keeping us from canceling. She even offered us a discount. Then when my husband remained firm with her and said to cancel she said that it was going to take at least three to four billing cycles to process the change. It didnt take that long to put them on our bill. If you see one of these people in Sams Club run the other way do not talk to these people. They are scammers. I dont know what can be done legally, but they are breaking the law they have to be. It is shameful what they are doing to some of these people that cant afford a huge bill like that not that we can. ”
“ I've had NRG for over 12 months and they were only lower than DLC the first two months. My rate is 3x the DLC rate. I despise this company and their false advertising. ”
“ First month in my new place, an 1 bedroom 1 bathroom. they told me I would save more money there than AEP i decided to switch , my first bill on AEP was $140. Next month it was with NRG and my bill was $222 , way more than I shouldve paid. I decided to cancel same day I got that bill, my new AEP bill just came and it is $130. I would never suggest NRG unless you want a bill between $200/$300. Unnecessarily robbed out of money. ”

“ Offered $100 if we signed up but nowhere it was mentioned the 100. We got home and it was $20 gift card, not $100 and the rest was fine but we were going to save only $2/month in our monthly bills so we called to cancelled after reading how the rates jumped so high after the first 3 months. We were told we had to wait 2 billing cycles but we cancelled the 3rd day since we signed up so legally they had to cancell!! We had no access to a written contract with all info lady on the phone was saying until 3 weeks later and what we had didn't match with her info. We had no way to log in until waiting 3 more weeks so we just wanted to cancel. Too many inconsistencies and contradictory information. We were able to cancelled but not transparent and with deceptive practices. Do not trust this company! ”
“ Horrible experience- do not let the contract expire. The new rates are more than double!! Price gouging scan-stay away!!! ”
“ In PA and signed up for a 12 month plan at a decent rate, however, when the plan ended, the rate went up 160% - which is significantly higher than PPL's base rate!! They mentioned they sent a letter, however I did not see anything except wording that even without a contract, the rate would be competitive! Maybe if I lived in a remote part of Alaska and wanted to save a few cents from running a gas powered generator!! This company is not worth investing in unless you watch them with a microscope. Horrible experience and will never go back!! ”
“ When it came time to renew the rate was going to double. Again basically forcing me to shop elsewhere. They were pushy on the first sale, and then really rude when they approached me after I switched. I would not go back to this shit company. ”
