“ I will say, that if you are very very good at maintaining contact with them every 3 months to "renew your rate." There is a possibility they could save you money. PLEASE if you risk it with this company, READ THE FINE PRINT and fully understand what you are getting yourself into. Their business model is bogus and they hook people with their promotion prices and then slowly raise your rate in the background without notification (unless you are on a 6 or 12 month plan apparently). This is where it gets confusing for me. I don't recall being given this option, but of course the people that work at stands in Walmart on commission are probably told to push the 3 month plan to make more $ because people will obviously forget to call in and renew their rate every 3 months. There is zero integrity in this company. It's all a promotion and then they can just raise your rate as high as they want once that promotion is over, unless you call for a new promotion. Our current electric bill is over $1,000! In the middle of a February snow storm, they had the audacity to charge double the normal rate for my fully electric home to my younger brother and 8 month old son. I guess we freeze to death or starve. They have been way over charging me for electricity since April 2021 and I had ZERO clue that I was supposed to call them for a lower rate. I take some responsibility for not reading the fine print. But calling to renew every 3 or even 6 months in the middle of pregnancy, raising a baby, and death of a family member is ABSURD. Unless you are hyper organized and can remember to call them regularly, I would just stay FAR FAR away. There's too many things going on in life at any given time that's what they are banking on. That you will forget, not notice the increase over time and then make a killing off of you. ”

Total scam. In Chicago they try to sign you up in Menards. They are charging rates twice the amount you would be charged using ComEd. They charge 0.119 when
ComEd charges 0.071 per kWH. It 67 % on top of what you should be paying.
I asked them to provide me with the written contract. Did not get it from the. The bill comes from the ComED. I thought that the ComED is rising the prices but when I called ComED they said that it is a third party provider not them, who is charging me such a higher rates. I never got any letter from them. They just operate the call center and singn poeple in at WalMart, Menrads... This is a total fraud. Lack of transparancy , lack of proper billing. I filed a complain with Illinois Commerce Commision. I was told that people file the complains against NRG Retail Solution with the Illinois Commerce Commision.
If I did not call ComEd and complained about the higher rates I would be still paying high rates. The cancellation of the contract takes two billing cycles ( two months ).

So yesterday I signed up at the Walmart with the associate and was told Id receive a Walmart gift card for $20. “ This company is a scammer they help put people into debt raising their bill twice higher than your actual gas/electric bill. They double charge you and reads as a second charge on your bill statement at the bottom. There needs to be a class action lawsuit against this company and lots of people need to be warmed to beware and stand far clear away from them and dont fall for the antics of them trying to give you a free gift card or $100 its not forth debt or stress ”
“ When the NRG guy pitched his sale to us, he talked about locking in the best energy rate and claiming theirs was the lowest. He got us locked in for 12 months, then we noticed our energy bill climbing. After the promo rate (which wasn't actually the lowest as he'd claimed), our bill started getting higher each month. Before NRG, our highest monthly bill didn't go over 150. This month, in spite of warmer weather (less heat and space heater use) and no ac's hooked up yet for summer, we were shocked with a $320 bill. Calling toledo Edison, they said NRG is charging us 13.5c/kwh, while their standard rate right now is 7.5c/kwh!! Without NRG we would be paying $113. That's $207 that NRG is overcharging just in 1 month! I'm trying to support a family of 6 here, and they don't care who you are if they can con you out of money. Boycott NRG. We cancelled them immediately after receiving this bill and talking to the customer support at toledo Edison. ”
“ Was told I was getting a gift card for being with my local energy provider. I was adamant that I did not want to switch providers or raise my electric bill. After looking me up and having me sign an agreement to send me the gift card that they would not let me read. I was signed up for NRG that was charging more. I immediately called to cancel with them. They told me they would cancel and have it so I was never in the system. They assured me that there was no need to contact my energy provider to have them stop it and gave me a cancelation code. A week later I got a welcome to NRG email. I called a second time. The cancelation ticket was never submitted by the first person. The second person whom I was hoping would cancel it refused to email me a verification that I did indeed cancel it this second time. I had to contact my local provider to cancel NRG because of how shady their business dealings are. Would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. ”

First month, four days actually, my electric bill had a $14.63 NRG charge in addition to my normal monthly charge. It was somewhat difficult cancelling NRG. I havent gotten my latest gas bill. “ In four months they've raised my gas rate by 247%. I signed on for a 3 month promotional deal at Walmart. I forgot to call and renew after nine months, my bad. However, in the four month interim, the rate went from .32 per therm, to .79 per therm! They raise the rate by 30% each month, so the compounding effect is huge! “ I paid NRG for several years for their underground sewer/main waterline repair. A couple months ago I found out my main water line was broken and I paid over $10k to make the repair and sent the claim to NRG with all the documentation and after a few weeks they approved my claim. After waiting for my claim check for several weeks I contacted them and they informed me that they need additional documents which I sent to them. Upon sending them the docs they denied my claim because the leak was under the foundtion of the house and apparently they only cover leakds outside the home which is not what I was told when I signed up for the plan. If you're thinking about using NRG, think twice, they will find any way possible to deny your claim. These guys are pure scammers and you're better off getting coverage with a reputable company that will be there when you actually need the services. ”
