“ BUYER BE WARE!!!! As my usage went down due to energy efficient appliances, NRG increased their rate. For the past 12 months, NRG rate was approx. $0.12 vs. ComEd $0.06 per KWH. The trusting soul that I am, just realized that NRG overcharged me by approximately $539.64 over the past 12 months. I have terminal cancer, have been ill for over four years and have not been well enough to really read my bill. When I called NRG, the customer service representative implied that it was my fault for not calling them. I trusted that their rates would be competitive (equal to or less than) with ComEd. What they are doing to criminal. ”
“ my electric bill went from 250 to 519. this month and that is with me getting 32% percent off i dont know who to call because i cant afford to pay 519.00 a month ”
“ My bill shot to the highest it has ever been in the 10 years I have bene in this house. I switched just before Christmas and as soon as their "Introductory rate" stopped it did a massive jump. After this acct closes I will never use their company again ”
“ My wife was approached by one of these guys in a walmart. He yelled at her from about 4 aisles down and then began going to work. After he got her to sign up she called me (I was at work), and she told me she had lowered our electric bill by signing up with NRG. They had "locked us in at .09/Kwh for 2 years. AEP was charging us .112/Kwhr! He looked at our bill and showed me!" The problem there was that our city recently switched to an aggregate and our rates are actually only .062/Kwhr which is much lower than AEP charges. After I got off work, I went over to the walmart to ask questions to the guy since it didn't make sense to me how raising our rate by almost 50% was going to save us money. When I approached him and let him know my wife signed up earlier and I had questions, he asked who my wife was. I told him and he goes, "Oh, is she the...not trying to be rude..." and made a sweeping gesture with his hands to mime a heavier set person. HOW IS THAT NOT RUDE?! And then when I started asking questions about how a rate that's about 50% higher than our current one would save us money. He straight up told me that 9 is not 50% higher than 6. I made him pull out his calculator to make him understand basic math. These guys do not care what you pay, it is their job just to sign you up. He saw our bills and knew we had a lower rate and lied to my wife and got her to sign up to a higher rate, and then body shamed her to me. AVOID NRG AT ALL COSTS!! These guys are never looking out for your best interests, they just want you sign up so they get their commission. ”
“ Ive been a customer since early 2021, lately Ive noticed how high my gas and electric bill has been so I had my bill audited. Came to find out that NRG is charging me way more than my normal suppliers (PGW & PECO). Im a senior and still working full time Im appalled! I really got roped in to that sales pitch and Im in sales BEWARE ”
“ I bought a refrigerator from lowes and NRG offered a rebate threw Lowes for $150 gift card. I signed up with NRG and after I fulfilled the contract and asked where the gift card was NRG informed me in the 3 pages of fine print that you need to be an attorney to read it says if you ever received a promotion from them b4 you will not receive the gift card. This tells me they have to fool people into there service. NRG should be ashamed of themselves. I will spend every day telling people of this scam called NRG. ”
“ My electric bill is double what it was. Customers shouldn't have to contact a legit utility company every 3 months. Customers should be informed by NRG reps from the beginning that the rates double after 3 months. NRG doesn't tell you to call in 3 months, they don't tell you how much the rate increase is. It's a surprise ”
“ For some reason I signed up with them. They sell a good pitch. I just looked into my bill finally and called Duke to compare their rates. I literally paid $100 more a month bc of using NRG rather then Duke. $800 down the drain!! HIGHWAY ROBBERY! ”
“
NRG harassed me to sign up at 6%. Then a few months later, my bill doubled. When calling them, which was a nightmare, I was informed that my new rate was 11% because my initial rate was only good for 3 months.
This was never mentioned by the person that signed me up.
Customer Service is horrible because they don't care about existing customers when they are scamming new people every day to sign up with them. ”
“ I was charged my monthly payment as always through my local company on top of what NRG supplied. So my bill is $102 more this month. I cancelled with them as soon as I saw my bill. Don't be scammed by their reps on saving money!!! That's their job!!!! I should've walked way when I was approached in Wal-mart. Save money and just stick with your basic supplier!! Lesson learned!!! ”
“ Good promo short term, but you costs will nearly double. ”
“ This "supplier" company will sign you up with "verbal" approval, meaning that an associate that talks to you in a store can say that you verbally agreed to their terms when you actually did not. This company has been charging me 3x the amount I should be for 3 years. Yes, 3 years. I've lost thousands of dollars to this scam company at a time when money was scarce. DO NOT EVEN TALK TO AN NRG ASSOCIATE if they approach you. PLEASE. ”
“ My bill triple by using them. ”
“ I received a letter today 8/3/2023 that my electric supplier is being switched over to NRG effective 8/3/2023, i did not authorize this switch as i am the account holder and pay the monthly electric bill. They tricked my daughter into giving her address and then tried to switch without my knowledge for authorization. They should be fined for fraudulent activities ”
“ Charged me 17.6 kWh and tried justifying it. They are the worst and take advantage of people. Beware! ”
“ If I can give this company zero stars, I would. Stay far away from them. They are scammers. I've been using them for my energy supplier for almost a year and paid every month in full, on time. They will steadily increase your rate, but when I finally decided to cancel my service with them, I received the most outrageous bill I've ever seen in my life for electricity. They will find a way to make their money. Never in my wildest dreams would I ever receive a $388 bill for one month. Very unethical and I will make sure I let everyone I know to stay far away. ”
“ I was approached at my local Walmart by 2 reps for nrg and was told their rates were so much better than Ameren. I thought my $400/mo electric bill was bad for my small home. With no difference in our usage nrg is charging me $1200/mo even after I had cancelled twice. I live in southern Illinois in a very poverty ridden area and they offered me a $25 inconvenience. So they admitted guilt. Most people in my area make that much for the whole month. They are scam artists! Do not use them. They charge .19 kWh and you dont know until its too late ”
“ I was approached today by an employee/ salesperson by the name of Ari at the Stringtown Rd. Walmart & asked for my zip code. I politely declined (no thank you) and continued to walk away. This woman literally proceeded to FOLLOW ME as I was walking away and said I said whats your zip code and again I said Im sorry Im not interested and she said AGAIN whats your zip code??? I ignored her at this point because she was being extremely disrespectful towards me & she yelled at me to keep on walking I turned around and looked back at her and said excuse me?? And she replies you heard me then continued to stare at me and Bob her head at me while I was getting formula for my baby (who was also with me at the time). Absolute disrespect!!!! I will not recommend this company to anyone based off of my experience today. Do better!!!!!! ”
“ They tried to call me about a 'cash back' offer as a new supplier for electricity in my area. First, I don't pay an electric bill where I rent. Second, the rates offered are terrible and are not worth the 'cash back' offer at all. Finally, if they really are offering a sweet deal, why do they call from one number and tell you to call another number? This reeks of a bait-and-switch scheme. ”
“ Nrg was at a local store, Shawn would hardly let me ask a question , I kept telling him dont sign me up for anything, he replied I am not just providing info. He lied about the electric rate of .042, it says in sign up info .062 for 1st 3 months. My energy was at .038 lower than what they stated. He misled, and lied. If I see them in my store I will tell all. I would give them negative 10 stars if I could. ”
