Just Energy was founded in 1997 in Canada and has grown into a massive energy conglomerate that service more than 1.8 million customers in North America. They also have the distinction of being the largest competitive green energy retailer in North America.
Just Energy is part of a group of companies that offer natural gas in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, Quebec, British Columbia, New York, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and California, and electricity in Ontario, Alberta, New York, Massachusetts and Texas.
Just Energy has also expressed plans for launching retail service in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, D.C., Rhode Island, Georgia and Delaware.
“ I had a sales rep come to my door and told me I could APPLY to see if we qualified for their services. I asked the person more than once if I really was just APPLYING and not actually signing up for anything and she told me yes. So here I am thinking I'm just going through the process to see if we would get "approved" all the while I'm actually being signed up. They tell you you have 3 days to decide whether you want the service or not. So I call to cancel right away. Of course it's a Saturday and their "canceling people" aren't there (how convenient). So I call back on Monday and cancel and am told everything is good. LITTLE DID I KNOW.. the moment I was "approved" my previous electric company got terminated. I now owe my previous company quite a bit of money for terminating, PLUS I will most likely owe Just Energy since apparently we have been using them for the past few days. And to top it all off, we may have to go without electricity for some time until this is all sorted out because we canceled Just Energy and our previous provider was canceled too, leaving us with NO ONE. And I refuse to stay with Just Energy. I wasn't even truly a customer and I am more disappointed/enraged than I have ever been with a company. JUST STEER CLEAR OF THEM. DO NO DO IT. They are ridiculous people who LIE just so they can probably get a commission or something. I really regret ever opening my door. ”

Just Energy's sales people will mislead you in the sales process to believe that their company's rates are lower, and that there are no cancellation fees. In fact when I checked my bill, my rates had jumped over 20%, and the demanded a $50 cancellation fee. I was told I could NOT speak to a manager in the service division, and their conflict resolution team has not yet produced my contract or voice recordings approving the transfer.
Stay away from this company, their sales practices are unethical and misleading. If you have friends that signed up for their "Lower Rates" do them a favor and help them get out as soon as possible. ”
“ This company is a scam. The salesman are lying to you! Your bill will be over $80, the salesman cannot guarantee you that it won't. He also told me the company I was with was charging me double per kWh which was a lie. They also start deducting from the $200 immediately. My bill for 3 days was $25. I read the reviews and I still let the salesman talk me into it. Oh, before I forget you will have a 5 year contract. And I don't work for TXU. The salesman told me that they investigated all the reviews and they came from TXU. PLEASE save yourself the headache! Stay with the company you are with!!!!!! ”
“ I had a just energy D2D agent come to my house saying it was going be cheaper cause of green energy and that it was locked in priece for life well long story short once i got my bill i saw a $50 green energy charge and when i called to cancel my contract they said it was for 5 years and if i wanted to cancel it be $75 per year i had left on contacrt idk what compeny would force customer to sign 5 year cintract it should be illegal so should the green energy charge ”

“ From my experience, the Just Energy representatives are highly unprofessional as well as rude. My fiance signed us up for this company after she had been promised LOWER fixed rates for our gas bill. Our gas bill has increased by 5x the normal amount since signing up with this company!!! I've talked to over 5 representatives trying to get detached from Just Energy and have gotten nothing but HUGE gas bills as well as hours of time wasted trying to talk to them! They seem to care about nothing but getting money no matter what it takes! DO NOT EVER SIGN UP WITH THIS COMPANY!!!! ”
“ I switched to Just Energy just a few months ago and every time my rate keeps going up. I am so glad I only signed up for the month to month. When I originally signed up the sales guy told me they would cover the cancelation fee from my other energy provider. Needless to say, Im going back to Cirro Energy. There rates are pretty darn low, and they are honest and nice. ”

Beware Beware Beware.
Because i pay bills mid month (not the 1st) the bill is always about 3 weeks late.
Disconnect notices almost monthly and 3 times (in the past year) working at home, boom power out!
I have never ever been disconnected before. The call every month threatening to disconnect.
I know I know I should have switched away. I am now doing that and bill went from $200 to $622. Not on any plan, some true flat rate bs. I don't think so, nope you will not see that out of my pocket. ”
“ I switched from TXU last year to Just Energy and I highly reccomend anyone who has had it with the big monopolized companies like TXU. My bills used to average about 200.00 monthly with TXU and now for a little over a year with Just Energy we have had 100.00 average bills now!!!! Thank yo Just Energy and also everytime I talk to any customer service agent they are in USA NOT OUTSOURCED like TXU ot Direct Energy who is a subsidiary of Centrica a Brittish company. My money stays here in USA where I live and I LOVE JUST ENERGY for their GREAT PRICES and GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!! ”

Rates have been good, customer service very poor. Charges of $4.95 to pay your bill online or check. You have less than a two week period to pay your bill. If you are late by one day you receive a disconnect notice and TWENTY DOLLARS $20.00 IS ADDED TO YOUR BILL. fraud, fraud..............late fees in Texas cannot be more than 5%................they call this a disconnect fee............so folks, just add another $25.00 to your bill.

Literally from day one they have found a way to screw up everything over and over, they intentionally charge back payments over again look at reviews this with volume and oversight they make millions in fraudulent charges, changing banks I supplied new account info they still six months later charging back payments already payed after overdraft hundreds on closed account,you name it it has been done, being a professional I am neutral most of the time this company is the worst in every aspect, the double charges and recharges on bills are anticipated for people to overlook by percentages it's criminal, customer service well.... hold, disconnected no knowledge only lies lies lies,

It seems like every month my bill goes up, now they charging for sending out disconnection notices.
Times are rough and low income families like mines might pay our bill a little late. But should we be charged a late fee along with a fee for sending a notice. A late fee is one thing. But extra fees. I have been with this company for a while now, and OMG. ”
“ These people are ridiculous and have no idea how to create customer loyalty. Outsourcing customer servive to India-BAD idea. If you are late, by ONE day, please expect to be charged a myriad of fees. If you call and spend 30 minutes on hold, they will remove a small portion of the fees as a credit on your account. Maybe anyway, or maybe they just tell you that to get you off the phone. I am stuck for another 4 and 1/2 years but will be moving the very day my contract expires. ”
“ Upon signing up with Just Energy, the agreement was that I would receive a $75 rewards card within 8-12 weeks. After mailing in the rebate form over 4 months ago, I still have not received it. When I call to check on the rewards card everyone gives me a different phone number/website/or email to obtain the status. Then 5 months after having service I started noticing random fees on my bill. Each bill I spend 45 minutes on the phone, sometimes I get the erroneous charges fixed. They are charging me $5 each month because I won't agree to let them automatically deduct my bill from my checking account. I don't trust them and would never agree to that. They make their money by "cramming" fees to their customers. ”

Customer Service (cs) with Just Energy is the absolute worst I've ever seen. After agreeing to have my payment taken out of my bank account each month, I asked her if I should go ahead and pay my bill since it was past due. She said "yes". I said "are you sure they won't take it out of my account" and she said "no, they'll see you don't owe anything". Well guess what. $380 taken out of my account 10 days after I had paid the $380. Now it's a month later and I still don't have my money. The 1st two weeks they kept telling me "it will be put back in your account between 3-5 days." Baloney!! Finally after the third week someone said "they won't put it back in your account, they're mailing you a check which could take 3 weeks". Still waiting for my check.

I was a customer for three years on a five year contract, i called four times to re-negotiate a lower rate from 12 cents to anything lower, would not even call me back. Finally decded to cancel contract, i called first to find out what it would cost me, two times i was told $150.00. final bill came and i was charged $225.00.
If you can reach someone at this company dont believe a word they say...all a bunch of liars! ”

They messed up our address repeatedly and we ended up getting threats to have our power cut off if we didn't pay our bill. We never received one since they messed our address up and had to call them to see what was going on. They told us their were late fees and charges added, but didn't say we had any time to pay our bill. Why should we pay for their incompetence on messing up the address!!?!
Switched immediately to another supplier. Customer service rep was demanding immediate payment or we would lost electricity.

“ Signed a one year contract to match my lease (thank God only one year). Signing up was very easy and quick, however when I started getting my bills I was being charged almost $20 a month in BS fees. $10 for paper billing, several dollars for manual payment (mailing in a check), fee's for online payments, etc... They were very rude when I called them on the fee's (and it took several calls and hours to finally get them stopped and partially refunded). After all this our rate is still more than two cents higher than most other plans. I cannot wait to get rid of this shady supplier! ”
“ They got me on 5 year program on my home. I had another house that I had month month with them, no contract. When it was sold they hit me with a $150 cancel fee.I contacted them & they said I was right not to pay it. Just got a cut off notice from them. When you call them expect a 30 minute wait every time! ”

I checked my bill this month after several months of receiving them. They have randomly placed $18.00 worth of fees on my account. All of a sudden there is a "manual Pay fee" which is bogus since I always pay online and then there is a "OPT out of Ebill fee " for $10.95. I aksed about a previous bill in which I was charged $9.95 for choosing Ebill. So, they get you comoing or going..... I will be taking two courses of action. BBB as well as report them to the FERC. Actually make it 3. I will be calling my local news station " Take it to Akin " to see if they would like to run a story on the SCAM that they are running...... I have several months to go on this contract, but after that I can assure you I will not be back with this company and if I have anything to do with it, put them out of business or make them pay huge fines....I will also contact my lawyer to see about a clas action on these scammers.
