Just Energy was founded in 1997 in Canada and has grown into a massive energy conglomerate that service more than 1.8 million customers in North America. They also have the distinction of being the largest competitive green energy retailer in North America.
Just Energy is part of a group of companies that offer natural gas in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, Quebec, British Columbia, New York, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and California, and electricity in Ontario, Alberta, New York, Massachusetts and Texas.
Just Energy has also expressed plans for launching retail service in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, D.C., Rhode Island, Georgia and Delaware.

Customer service, forget about it, web site forget about it. Gladly paid 150 bucks to get out of the contract. Why can't the State shut these guys down??? ”
“ Total BAIT & SWITCH SCAM. I contacted Just Energy because they are listed as an energy provider on the Pflugerville official website. The sales representative PROMISED that with a one year contract I would be locked in at a rate of 8.5 c./Kwh for 12 months. The very next bill the rate jumped 37.6% to 11.706 c./Kwh. I called their customer service to find out what was going on. I was told they would have to investigate and would contact me in 72 hours. They didn't and I forgot about it because I have a busy life and don't really have the time to be on the phone with an electric company. All I want is for the company to deliver what they promise and I pay for. The next bill comes and there was yet another increase to 12.6 c./Kwh. This time I'd had enough, I called again and got the same BS answer. I waited 3 days and of course did not get a call back. So I called them, this time I would not deal with anyone but a supervisor. After nearly an hour of not taking no for an answer a supervisor PROMISED me they would adjust my bills for the 2 months I was overcharged, I also recorded the phone conversation. At this point I'd had enough and found a different electric provider with a rate of 8.9. I then filed a complaint with the Texas Public Utility Commission. That got a response from Just Energy from their "Resolutions" department. I went through the same hoops with this guy as I had the customer service supervisor. I was PROMISED they would adjust my final bill and not charge me a fee for ending the contract. I got my final bill yesterday. Do you think they kept any of their promises. NOPE THEY DID NOT.THIS COMPANY IS NOTHING BUT BAIT & SWITCH, LIES AND BROKEN PROMISES. ”
“ Just Energy changes the amount due every time I call... One minute 102 is due the next minute; it's 151.65. I'm never sure of how much I owe and sometimes I don't receive my bill... This company sucks and makes me tired.... I really get sick of Just Energy! ”
“ So i was also suckered into signing up with just energy...Man came to my door step talking a good deal thi that and the other and i signed up and so far i havent seen my bill lower then 250! Now if i cancel early i will have to pay 500 dollars plus what ever the last bill is that i owe. I cant afford a 250-375 dollar bill every month. So they advertise on their website your rate plan signing up could be as low as 8.7 so i asked about that and she goes thats only for the first month! “ They are dishonest. We signed up for their services by calling Just Energy number. No indications that it is third party. Conditions were negotiated over the phone. Promised rate was 11cents per kW and plan was to be fixed, not variable. My bill was close to $500 (previous bill with another company was $300). The rate on the bill showed 13 cents per kW and variable plan. Customer service talks over you and explains that you've talked to the third party and they are mot responsible for the errors or omissions. I switched immediatelyto my previous energy provider. Just Energy is a real, certifiable scam! Be warned! ”

“ As all other posters stated, they come to your house telling you how much money you will be saving and that your rate will go down. I am interested, but kind of taken a back that 100% wind energy would possibly be cheaper. Anyways I start the contract by talking on the phone to a customer service rep who talks so fast and as im listening I realize all these things hes saying are not at all what the rep told me. SO as soon as i heard him say 5 YEAR CONTRACT i said screw this and GOODBYE. I did not complete that scam. 5 years really??? who knows what will happen in 5 years that is outrageous. “ Seriously stay away from this abortion of a company. The people who answer the phones are rude as hell, they jacked up my bill $100 even though I used less electricity, and they could give no explanation as to why, just pay it. I will, I canceled and I'll send my payment in pennies. I've been with a few different providers but this company is a complete scam. I signed up for 10.9 kwph and ended up being charged over 16. I've never had a light bill over $ 200 in 4 years in my home. My first bill was for 5 days, $50. My next bill was $280 using 2400 kwph, then this month it's $320 for 200 kwph LESS than the lat month. Now I have to pay a 175 early termination fee to get away from these crooks. Unbelievable the state allows to them to keep running this scam. Sickenin. SERIOUSLY STAY AWAY! SCAM SCAM SCAM!!! ”
“ I just finished talking to a Just Energy salesperson who knocked on my door. He claimed he wasn't selling anything, just wanted to check my utility bill to make sure I was getting the discount. That sounded fishy because I'm not currently a customer of theirs. I wanted to know what he was selling. For twenty minutes he refused to tell me what he was offering and kept asking to see my utility bill. He claimed I was over-analyzing things every time I tried to find out anything specific. Very weird. I'm sure glad I didn't show him my utility bill. ”
“ I signed up with Just Energy last September, thinking I was getting a good deal, right? WRONG!!! I at first thought I could understand the high electric bills in the winter because I was using three small electric space heaters, along with one gas space heater to heat my house. However, when the cold weather left, and the only electricity even flowing through my house was refrigerator, two computers (not all the time), and one t.v. part of the time, I could not understand why my bill was still almost $300. After losing my job, then losing my unemployment benefits, I called them to try to negotiate the now $500 bill I had accrued, and was told, no problem, we'll set up a payment plan; pay $120 now and $60 on each bill for the next five months! First bill I got was $300, and the energy charge was only$65; all the rest was BS fees!!! Then I get a disconnection notice, so I called again. The electronic menu said my bill was now over $700, and when I got this little smart aleck girl with an accent on the line, she said it was $800, and that they cannot grant an extensive because I defaulted on the payment agreement!! When I asked how it went from $500 to $700 to $800 in a matter of minutes, she hung up on me. Now they want the entire $800, which I do not have, and don't know of many people who do, and I can't get any other electric service because they have put some kind of hold on me!!! ILLEGAL AS HELL!!! Just waiting for the power to be shut off at any time now, and then I don't know what I'll do. ”
“ I had recently just moved into a house so my husband was the one who called to transfer our service. They hid a $149 fee from him because he wanted a locked price. Also I was waiting on my bill to arrive, a month and a half letter I get the ONLY mail I've ever received from them stating they will disconnect our service cuz we didn't pay last month. How am I supposed to pay when I have no acct # I never even received an email. And not only that they said I was able to do split payments and if I pay before the disconnection date I will be fine. Paid it on Saturday and thought everything was good. I wake up this morning and my power is disconnected. I call them asking why mind you I was on hold for a very long time and then I explain my situation and she says after I had paid the 1st half over the phone I was supposed to call back. The 2 ladies I spoke with while paying my 1st half never stated that I had to call back they just told me to pay the amount given. She kept going on and on I should've called back. Are you serious? I asked to speak to a manager and I'm put on hold again. And then they decided to accept it this one time. This company charges you with hidden fees. Ever since I've signed up with them its been nothing but stress and bullshit. If I could rate them any lower I would. ”
“ We had a nice guy come by the house to promote just energy, and some how ended up being in a contract. He said it was just an estimate to see if my bill would go down. I'm mailing in the cancellation form tomorrow! He never said I was switching my energy provider! They are way more expensive than my current company. 14.1 cents/kwh is ridiculous! I don't care if its better for the planet, I can't afford that kind of rate! “ I've been with just energy for about a year now after moving in with my sister. I pay the electricity but had no say in which company we went with seeing as she moved in before I did, and boy I wish I had had a say. She chose the "prepaid" account and it is just miserable. I'm literally paying $30 every 5 days and that's if we use barely any lights. Also when you call to pay they say you can avoid a fee or whatever and that is a lie! I just found out today that no matter how you pay there is a fee every single time you pay! What??! I'm so done with this company and will not recommend to ANYONE!!!! ”

Sooo many hidden charges, they charge you for everything, I've used different electricity companies and this one "just energy" is the worst. “ My husband is an idiot for going with just energy, sure the plan sounded good with no deposit needed but they screw you over in the long run with ridiculously high light bill. To top that off they charge a $55 late fee every time we pay late. An when I call in to customer service i have to wait 30 minutes to talk to someone. Best light company i have been with in the past is STREAM ENERGY. If my husband hadn't took it upon himself go with this company i would have went back to Stream Energy. ”
“ Contract ran out in January, and my bill more than doubled, even though I used less electricity in February. I decided to look around for another company. I had a SmartStat thermostat with them so I called to see what would happen if I switched. Would there be any charges? Would it still work. I was told there would be no charges and it will still work just fine. So I found a good rate and made the switch only to be confronted with a $500 bill the next month! I called and was told it was the charge for the SmartStat thermostat I had with them. I called BS, and they told me that I should have known about the charge! So bottom line, I didn't have to pay a termination fee, but I can either pay the $209 for the thermostat, or I can pay $195 for them to come remove it! Bunch of crooks! ”

Called and canceled on Tuesday morning. Thought all was well. Called my electric company on Wednesday. They informed me that I was no longer their customer. Just energy had already changed my electric company. Now I had 3days to change my mind. They didn't even wait. Then wanted to turn around and charge me $500 cancellation fee. They didn't even wait the 3 federal business days. Do not sign with them. Beware. ”
