Quick response
| The electric on my parent's farm went off with a bang. We suspected the transformer. Within 2 hours, the serviceman Brent came, found a dead squirrel at the bottom of the electric pole and restored the electric inside of 10 minutes. I greatly appreciated that even though he had already had full day, he quickly set my parents at ease. Great service. | |||

Use of you like unreliable power
| This company has more outages than a motherboard dropped in a bathtub full of battery acid. The reviews saying that the power goes out of windy are not exaggerating, at all. It can be a clear sky. Doesn't matter. Enough wind to see visible leaf movement is enough to put you in the dark ages. On average the power is out more than once a month, which is insane compared to every other experience I've ever had. | |||

5th power outage in a week so far
| My power has been turned off without warning five times so far in this one week. Typically its out for 2 to 3 hours. Well see this time. I was in contact with MetEd and ultimately they said we cant guarantee Power 247. Ive never heard that from any power company anywhere and I have lived all over the USA.. | |||

Terrible customer service
| Been a customer of Met-Ed for over 4 years at 1 address... trying to move my account to another address has so far, taken me 3 days and still no resolve. FINALLY got a call back today, the A$$hole on the phone pretended he couldn't hear me, then just hung up. If I had a choice to use a different power company and pay more, I 100% would do that. This company is TERRIBLE at looking after the people who pay for this terrible service. | |||

You won't believe this... set up payment plans and THEY forget about them...
|
OK hang on. First of all, ridiculous prices. They are making a LOT of money. I live in a small rancher 1200 sq ft and full basement. I have to heat both floors, because I have animals which for space sake live partly in the basement. So that's 2400 sq ft to heat and the only means of heat are electric space heaters. So... I economize and cut back and prices go up... scarily. That's not what I am writing about. If anybody out there has a used wood stove for sale or donation....
I am on assistance, retired and over 70 years old. My retirement acct disappeared over 20 years ago. Poof. Gone. This is not about that. So I am under federal poverty lines, and on several programs. I have medical issues with my circulation and heart... cold temperatures and hot temperatures stress both of them. I had clogged arteries a couple years ago... in a leg. If a clot had gone into my heart, I would be dead right now. This is not about that. My medical program gave me an allowance monthly that last year rolled over month to month. I did not know about it till December, and was severely behind in electric bills, but Dec thru March they cannot shut off poor peoples electric. So I was put on a monthly program of 400 dollar payments to cover current and past due amounts. They said for the next 2 years, pay us 400 a month and you will be good... we have averaged your monthly bills to this amount... you pay the same every month. So I took my medical allowance money... and the thing is... medical insurance allowances go to zero and start over on Jan 1 each new year, no matter how much was on your card. That is, suppose you get 300 dollars a month, and dont spend a dime all year. The 3600 dollars at the end of the year... disappears Jan 1 and you cannot get it anymore if you do not spend it within the calendar year. So it was NOT an option to pull the money and bank it and dole it out monthly to pay the 400.00. Because they DON"T let you pull it out and bank it... its on a card, and its gone at the end of the year. So you have to spend it, or lose it, by the end of December. Still with me? Understand all this? So I wanted to pay my 400/month bill, and do past months and ahead a few months... so I would owe nothing until at least April. And then its just the 400 a month. And LIHEAP would also cover two or three of those payment months. So that puts me good until June or July, if LIHEAP gives you the full amount of grants at 1200 dollars or so. LIHEAP is a heating energy assistance grant from the govt which I receive annually. I know this is getting long. Its complicated. So rather than see my money go away, and needing to get this bill in hand, I put 2000.00 on the electric bill. That would be... five 400 dollar payments. Covering Nov 24-April 2025. Still with me? That would give me breathing room. So I had paid no attention to bills because they were all paid way ahead in December. But Met Ed did not count it as 5 payments on the plan. They took the money and said "thank you very much" and expected 400 dollars a month in Jan, Feb, March, etc. Junk mail only comes to my association clusterbox mailbox, because I do everything online. But, MetEd still sends paper bills there. Lo and behold, they are threatening me to cut off my electric... 12 days ago on April 1. So now I am very angry. They forget and do not honor their payment arrangements... conveniently... and always go for the more money for them arrangement. They ASSumed that I was paying down the principal, and would resume 400 dollar payments in January. People on assistance and under the poverty level cannot do that. Rich dishonest people can. So I go to customer service and call. They arrange a call back because of one hour wait times. they call back and give it a big three rings or so... my computer VOIP line... does not come up when I hit the button on the computer. By the time it is up, they are gone, and I have to get back in the waiting line. So I call from my smartphone, and leave another callback number. Lo and behold, they call... I hit the answer button, and they are already gone. Now it is like six o clock, and on a Friday, and i am done for the day. My cutoff date is April 21 2025. And they should be sending me statements saying... GOOD boy! You are right on schedule! You need a 400 dollar payment this month and we are good. And that is without considering LIHEAP. I have one more document to fax to my LIHEAP document preparers... and that app will be in days ahead of the cutoff for LIHEAP grants. I cant do that till Monday, because they are out of the office. Monday... tomorrow... I will call and the LIHEAP grant should pay me up like I said till July. Senator Brown's office is handling that matter for me. But, like I said, I forgot to bring the paper electric bill with me... but I remembered all the other docs, like proof of income, 1099s, etc. But METED states in the current bill that the shutoff amount is over 1200.00. I mind you that this is a 5000.00 a year bill I am paying here... and all their "programs" are just double talk to say... "pay us now or else." In my opinion, use PPL or anybody else. This company is dirt ignorant when in their own favor. Always stupid towards you... but smart when it benefits them. Avoid them if you can. You have been warned. The STATE of Pennsylvania does not really regulate them, lawyers don't care, and who are you gonna call? They do not remember or honor their own setup program payment amounts. To get a medical block from their shutting off power, you have to see your doctor and get authenticated. Fine. Problem is... you still have to pay your bill. This does not mean they will not shut you down after a month or so. I say nationalize them. Electricity should be a PUBLIC COMPANY, and not a run for profit private deal. The govt would have direct communication from within to different concerns and situations thru social programs and grants. And you would not get run around the bush. And calls would be answered within a minute or so... like Amazon customer assistance. If Amazon can do it, Met Ed can also. IF MetEd cared about their jobs, company, and people, they would AT LEAST have enough phone people to answer calls so that you could reach them within a minute or two. The whole holding on the phone thing is to discourage you and waste your time. And the people online just keep referring to assistance programs... which are only partial solutions. There are no real solutions to payment problems... except for third party companies like Aetna Health Insurance and LIHEAP and Social Security. I still have to go see SS to interview, and that is another wasted couple days and waiting for paperwork and approvals. I dont currently have a running car and I live in the country. Mine broke down and I try to save up for repairs. I have no relatives around. Thank God for MCTA. Pennsylvania... Josh Shapiro Gov and MetEd don't give a squat about you. Just their jobs and their money. I really needed the breathing room to fix the car so I can get a local anything job. If I don't have to pay 1200 dollars on my own this month, and then just resume 400 dollar payments in July, I can get my car fixed, get a job, and be secure in paying the bills here. I am retired, and part time would do it for me. But the government and the electric company are working against the solutions, and attempting to push you over the edge. I should have stayed in Florida. I know... who the hell moves from Florida to Pennsylvania? Long story. But I had very low energy bills in Florida and the govt and weather were all on your side. Not here. Not Pennsylvania. This state really sucks. |

Refuses to call back and gives false information
| Ive been trying to contact met ed for months and either they ignore calling back, or while Im on hold they continue to pick up and place it back on hold. On top of that, they call you back from an unknown caller id at 7pm but when you answer halfway through the voicemail the woman hung up. Anybody else with these issues should seriously consider a different route to hold them accountable and make sure to follow through. | |||

Price gouging. Scamming customer.
| I received a text with my bill amount today. It was almost 3x my normal bill. Nothing has changed in my home. I tried to call several times but there is a two hour wait. This is a nightmare. We are elderly and this is very stressful. It seems Met Ed is scamming us as a customer and evading phone calls. We are at a loss as to what to do. The internet instructions say to talk to Met ed first but that is impossible. Something is very wrong with our billing but there is no one available to call. | |||

Need to work on customer services
| So I request to activate my account by email, then I called the next day. Someone on the phone told me will activate on next Monday. This was last month. Then couple days ago my landlord told me it's still under their name. So I called and the person on the phone told me I never called because no record of it. I told her I did and she kept saying NO without listen to me and just assumed I lied. She should listen and check what is the problem so if someone that work make a mistakes or didn't report it, they can fix it in the future. But this lady, I guess only her was right. And I have the record on my phone when I called them last month where I had to wait 1 hour 11 min just for them to said I DIDN'T CALL. | |||

Still waiting
| I've called 4 times over 2 separate days, on hold for much of those calls -- including a total of 2 hours today. Finally was talking to someone who seemed to be able to help me, and got cut off. Absolutely Infuriating! Not sure how I'm going to get this done. Met Ed: your customers have actual lives to attend to. Do Better!! And PUC: please look into whether or not this company is able to able to provide adequate service their customers deserve better. | |||

Horrible business practices!
| We were dealing with a family situation and had to get on a payment plan. We were getting ready to pay it off next month and finally get back to paying our normal usage bill. We were looking forward to it especially with the part of year coming when our bills are the lowest, a savings of $150 or more per month (compared to what we have been paying). Not only that, with the holidays coming this was a blessing after being on a high monthly plan for well over a year. We had contacted billing and had everything squared away to be completely caught up. Then we get this months bill and there's a new $394 charge!? When I called and told them that I had just recently spoke to someone and everything was good, that I would make a $200 by the end of August and be back on track, they didn't want to hear it. Keep in mind, I gave them $250 instead of the $200 I had promised and it was way before the end of the month. Not only that, our account also has $168 worth of credit that we overpayed throughout the year. When I questioned the $394, which wasn't the new usage charged, I was told by the representative, "don't pay it and we will shut off your electric". Seems very convenient that after months on end of getting $235 a month from us, and now going into the part of the year where they would get $60-$80 a month, an almost $400 fee pops up. When I asked to speak to a manager to discuss the charge and try to work something out I was told "you don't need to speak to a manager there's nothing they can do". Horrible business practices and terrible customer service! If you have to deal with them, good luck! If you have a choice, I definitely recommend going elsewhere as any other company would be much better and treat their customers with respect! | |||
