People wake up
Im Not in NRG but soon will be .. you people ALL of you who wrote a negative reply about NRG you need to understand that its not there fault as Humans beings we are all looking for that "DEAL" but how long do you really think its going to last yes they give you treats to join but they also mention that its INTRODUCTORY offer meaning its going to change and the funny part its right there in-front of you but like ALL humans Me included we dont read the fine print .. it clearly tells you that after the introductory offer that if you do not reply back your rate will go to a Variable until at which point you decide to reup with the Utility, People its YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to read your mail not NRGs so stop your bitchin and start reading enough said |

Great company, knowledgeable employees, only problem once u've used your fixed contract they get expensive from their on. They have good promo's, and now fair teaser rates, they used to be better. Highly responsible company so if rates are not the issue I highly recommend. |

NRG Manager here to clarify
Rates are adjusted QUARTERLY to undercut the distributor and that is why our plans are 3 months long. March, June, September, and December are the months to call and check in. A good rep will explain that to you multiple times before the end of the signup, but if they did not it is also in writing on the email confirmation, cancellation form, and welcome letter you will receive. What some folks fail to understand is that we cannot possibly remember every face nor force people to pick up the phone or stop in for the 3 minutes it takes to renew your account and always make sure youre saving a few bucks. YOU MUST EITHER CALL TO RENEW OR TO CANCEL TO AVOID THE VARIABLE RATES. I try my absolute best to inform people to the best of my abilities but I can't speak on anyone else's behalf. I wish things were a little clearer and that folks were trained better, but unfortunately that is over my head and I did feel compelled to write this to clarify that it is the customer's responsibility to maintain their account. We have hundreds of thousands of customers, reminder emails get lost and we cannot possibly remember every face, so please put your dates on your calendars. We are a good company that does a ton of charity work, employ thousands of Americans, and are working on better technology to generate cleaner energy for our future generations. I hope this helps. |

Rates get ridiculously high quickly
Signed up and rep was nice, customer service is nice but if you are in a variable rate agreement you better check your rates closely. Got the rate I signed up for 2 months and then it went up 23% in month 3 and another 16% in month 4....really!!!!! I beleive this company just takes advance of people. Still with the utility providers, at least they have to justify their rates with the public utility commission! |

Rebate's Read the fine print
I bought a refrigerator from lowes and NRG offered a rebate threw Lowes for $150 gift card. I signed up with NRG and after I fulfilled the contract and asked where the gift card was NRG informed me in the 3 pages of fine print that you need to be an attorney to read it says if you ever received a promotion from them b4 you will not receive the gift card. This tells me they have to fool people into there service. NRG should be ashamed of themselves. I will spend every day telling people of this scam called NRG. |

NRG rates went up from 38¢ to 92¢ at the end of three month contract
Singed up at Walmart NRG service for a three-month contract. Since I had paperless billing and auto-pay, didn't pay much attention to the billing details. Due to the onset of Winter, thought that the high billing was due to the high usage of gas heating.
But when I checked the billing statements for the last few months, realized they have increased the gas rates from 38¢ to 92¢ as I didn't renew the contract. I was royally screwed on an average of $125 per month. When I called customer service, they tried to give me a credit of $30. Even if I want to renew the contract, the new offered price of 38¢ won't be effective until 1-2 billing cycles which is ridiculous. So they want me to spend another $250 more when compared to PECO. If I want to cancel the service, again the same story - 1-2 billing cycles. So don't fall for the NRG reps trying to lure you to sign up. STAY away from NRG. |

I was charged my monthly payment as always through my local company on top of what NRG supplied. So my bill is $102 more this month. I cancelled with them as soon as I saw my bill. Don't be scammed by their reps on saving money!!! That's their job!!!! I should've walked way when I was approached in Wal-mart. Save money and just stick with your basic supplier!! This "supplier" company will sign you up with "verbal" approval, meaning that an associate that talks to you in a store can say that you verbally agreed to their terms when you actually did not. This company has been charging me 3x the amount I should be for 3 years. Yes, 3 years. I've lost thousands of dollars to this scam company at a time when money was scarce. When the plan ends - prepare for a price-gouging ripoff!
In PA and signed up for a 12 month plan at a decent rate, however, when the plan ended, the rate went up 160% - which is significantly higher than PPL's base rate!! They mentioned they sent a letter, however I did not see anything except wording that even without a contract, the rate would be competitive! Maybe if I lived in a remote part of Alaska and wanted to save a few cents from running a gas powered generator!! This company is not worth investing in unless you watch them with a microscope. Horrible experience and will never go back!! |

SCAM.
They tried to call me about a 'cash back' offer as a new supplier for electricity in my area. First, I don't pay an electric bill where I rent. Second, the rates offered are terrible and are not worth the 'cash back' offer at all. Finally, if they really are offering a sweet deal, why do they call from one number and tell you to call another number? This reeks of a bait-and-switch scheme. |

How screwed up can you get?
Here goes. I was a previous customer of NRG and canceled my account as of July 2019 to go with a different alternate supplier. With prices rising again, I decided in June 2022 to look for yet another alternate supplier. I decided to go back to nrg, whose plans and promotions looked favorable. Called customer service on June 7th and re-enrolled. After I went through the whole process on the phone, I was transferred to a third party verification source, which I understand is common in the industry. The third party verification representative wanted to know what name was on my account for my main supplier. I responded that I couldn't remember if my middle name was included or not and to wait a moment while I checked my last statement. She hung up. So I called NRG back and asked if the non-verification meant that I was not enrolled. Apparently, that's exactly what it DID mean, so I went through the whole process again with the NRG representative and with the third party verification representative. At this time, I was provided a confirmation number by the NRG representative and a verification number by the third party. I didn't hear from NRG after that and only called back on July 18th after a letter in the mail from my current alternate supplier that my rate was changing in August. I figured I had better double check with NRG about the enrollment process. Despite the fact that I provided a confirmation number and a verification number, I was told that I was not enrolled and that they didn't know the reason why. So, at that point, I spoke with another representative from NRG, who typed out the entire explanation of this episode and forwarded it to a support team at nrg. He gave me an "issue number" as a reference to use in confirming that I was enrolled from that point. He assured me that I would be. I thought I would give it a few days and call again to be sure, which I did on July 21st. Lo and behold, I was told by the representative that the support team responded to the representative, and ONLY the representative, not to ME: "the customer has to re-enroll!". JFC... what did they think I had been TRYING to do for the last 6 weeks? I was so annoyed when I spoke to the representative on July 21st that I'm afraid I used an expletive to describe an activity that is anatomically not possible. (). And I immediately called another alternative supplier and enrolled with them, cuz it is evident to me that NRG doesn't know its ass from Page 9. |

Rates
I signed up at Walmart and received a gift card, not realizing the rate offered was only valid for 3 months. Since I pay my electric bill with autopay, I never really paid attention to the cost of electricity. I signed at a rate of 0.07 per kwh. After 3 months, I come to learn now that they raised my rate to 0.09 per kwh. Within a year, I was up to 0.12 per kwh, nearly double. When I asked why this was done, they said because I did not call them back to lock in for an extended rate. I asked if it was due to utility pricing and they said no. They raised the rate because they could, not because energy prices went up. They can raise your rate 30% in one month if they choose and you do not lock in a set rate. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE |

BEWARE
I will say, that if you are very very good at maintaining contact with them every 3 months to "renew your rate." There is a possibility they could save you money. PLEASE if you risk it with this company, READ THE FINE PRINT and fully understand what you are getting yourself into. Their business model is bogus and they hook people with their promotion prices and then slowly raise your rate in the background without notification (unless you are on a 6 or 12 month plan apparently). This is where it gets confusing for me. I don't recall being given this option, but of course the people that work at stands in Walmart on commission are probably told to push the 3 month plan to make more $ because people will obviously forget to call in and renew their rate every 3 months. There is zero integrity in this company. It's all a promotion and then they can just raise your rate as high as they want once that promotion is over, unless you call for a new promotion. Our current electric bill is over $1,000! In the middle of a February snow storm, they had the audacity to charge double the normal rate for my fully electric home to my younger brother and 8 month old son. I guess we freeze to death or starve. They have been way over charging me for electricity since April 2021 and I had ZERO clue that I was supposed to call them for a lower rate. I take some responsibility for not reading the fine print. But calling to renew every 3 or even 6 months in the middle of pregnancy, raising a baby, and death of a family member is ABSURD. Unless you are hyper organized and can remember to call them regularly, I would just stay FAR FAR away. There's too many things going on in life at any given time that's what they are banking on. That you will forget, not notice the increase over time and then make a killing off of you. |

I don't remember signing up but it was only after reviewing my outrageous bill in detail did I realize that NRG was charging me $0.119/KWH when PECO's pricing was $0.0640...nearly double the costs and I had been paying that rate for over 2 years. Shame on me for not looking at my bill closely but shame on them for charging nearly double PECO's rates. In all, I think I paid nearly $2,000 more than I should have for the past 24 months! |

Scam!
Was shopping in Walmart and was approach but NRG salesman. Was told if I gave my information I was only signing up to receive info and was to receive $20 Walmart gift card. Did not receive gift card and starting receiving emails thanking me for signing up for an account. When I called they confirmed I had indeed signed up. Do not fall for this. Especially when they say they are using your drivers license only to validate you are a Duquesne Light customer. Scam!!! When I called to ensure it was cancelled I asked for my gift card and there was no way for them to give me one. |

Buyer Beware
As many others of talked about in their reviews, the company's business model appears to be attract you into an introductory offer, then charge obscenely high rates in the hope that you will pay your bills without paying attention. In my case, I have been paying .10790/kwh for the electricity portion of my bill, while PECO rates were .0627/kwh. When I called NRG, they wanted to offer me a new promotional rate.....I guess this works for someone who will stay on top of their tactics, but not for me. As it turns out, I have been paying out of market rates for many years. |

NRG's Pricing Prowess
This review discusses NRG's pricing and their role as an alternative supplier of electricity. They supply the electricity to my provider, PP&L, so comment on that role actually describes my entire experience with NRG. I relied upon NRG as having trading experience and knowledge that might produce a better price than PP&L. Instead, I paid NRG 15.9 cents per KWH throughout this past winter (2020-2021), while PP&L was charging less than 8 cents. That gap is so wide as to contradict any real attempt at competition or skill at trading. It was a cold winter and I paid bills of $500-$800 per month. Before I was allowed to cancel, proposals from NRG's rep included price discounts for 3 months that would beat PP&L's pricing. That told me that NRG was ready to charge excessively high prices to existing customers to enable costly discounts to new (or renewing) customers. I will not do business with this outfit again. |

Complete and utter scam
Was approached at Best buy, have noticed mtd and month over month utility bill has escalated exponentially shame on a company for taking advantage of people especially during this time in our country. Should be shut down by BBB. They promise to lock you in at a better rate lower than what you are being charged by regular provider, feel like they should be sued for purposely misinforming customers. |

Overpriced and Very Poor Customer Service
I probably should have requested to speak to a supervisor but I am fed up with all of the hassle & pleading for better service. When I advised the agent that I had a lower rate available than NRG was offering & asked if NRG could match it she said that she would change it to the (higher) NRG rate and went into the rest of the spiel they read off. If you dont review your monthly price with NRG compared to other companies you will most definitely be overpriced! I overpaid $127 monthly for at least several months!!! |

Horrible customer service-HORRIBLE
Do not sign up for this company!!! They will ROB you. They signed me up telling me my bill will be lower than what peco can offer. Sign up, and then 6 months later they are charging me DOUBLE what peco wouldve charged me. PECO IS 6 cents per KW, NRG IS 14!! In a time where more than half of our WORLD is out of work with NO income, they are doubling the price for their energy! With no warning of a doubled increase!! Do not ever give these fucking scumbags your money. Ever. They will rob you and leave you hanging to die. Fuck you NRG. |

I always stayed away from that crappy company
They seem to have no renewable options, meaning they mostly use the most polluting source of energy such as coal. Their sales tactics are despicable. And, if you compare electric rates, they are not competitive. |

They doubled my bill without warning. They told me that once the promo is over that the price would potentially go up to market value. Doubling isnt market value. Scummy business practice |
