Electricity Rates in PA Decreasing
Thanks to falling natural gas prices, almost every PA electric suppler has been offering lower rates. And it looks like the price drop is continuing into the fall. Duquesne Light Company (DLC) in Pittsburgh has filed to lower its PTC rate this fall. The also goes for PECO in Philadelphia. But you don’t have to wait for lower PTC rates to save money on electricity. Here’s why you should shop and save now on electricity rates.
PA PTC Rates Falling in Autumn
DLC and PECO have both filed to lower generation rates starting on September 1, 2023. While this isn’t their final PTC rate filing, the generation supply rates (which exclude the transmission costs) make up most of their Price to Compare rates.
- DLC has filed to lower their general supply (GS rates) for medium commercial and industrial generation by 22%. This takes their GS default rate from 8.41 cents per kWh to 6.6 cents per kWh. Residential rate changes tend to follow their commercial ones, so stay tuned!
- PECO has filed to lower their residential generation charge by 7%. This takes that supply rate from 9.39 cents per kWh to 8.75 cents per kWh.
Other utilities may announce new generation rates soon, and ultimately lower PTC rates. PA Electric Choice customers that shop plans will likely see even cheaper rates offered by electricity suppliers!
Find Lower Electricity Rates Now
Thankfully, you don’t have to wait for lower PTC rates this fall. The PA PUC is now encouraging customers to shop for lower rates. By shopping for a better rate, you could save up to 40% on electricity costs. As a matter of fact, they estimate savings could range from $18 to $32 per month for the average PA customer.

If you don’t know where to start shopping, don’t worry. We have four plans from different utility service areas to help you get started saving more.
If PECO is your utility, check out the Energy Harbor Safe Harbor 24 plan. At 8.68 cents per kWh, you’ll be saving nearly $19 a month compared to the current PTC rate. And with no monthly or cancellation fees, you can lock in this price for 24 months — that’s 2 years!.
If DLC is your utility, check out the Santanna Energy Services Fixed Rate Electricity 12. At 9.32 cents per kWh, you’ll save $18 a month compared to the current PTC rate. There is a $120 cancellation fee to be aware of, but this rate is locked in for a year with no monthly fees.
If PPL or Met-Ed is your utility, we recommend the Direct Energy Live Brighter 18 plan. For PPL customers, at 10.29 cents per kWh you’ll save about $16 a month compared to the current PTC rate. For Met-Ed customers, at 9.09 cents per kWh you’ll save about $10 a month. And with no cancellation or monthly fees, it’s a hard deal to beat. But there is a catch. This offer is only for new Direct Energy customers.
