Not happy with NRG - Shop around for better options.
The sales people were all great. They promised the world and said we would have no energy bill if we used the setup they designed for our home. So we did. Install took months, which is usually the norm, so I won't fault them too much for that. However, once completed, it was crickets from them on any follow up questions as to how to set up the system to work with our energy provider and save us money. We just got our first monthly bill for the first month when solar was active, and it WENT UP by $300!! Now that we have paid off the system, I can't get anyone to come back out to our home and actually get it running optimally. I highly recommend that you shop around and read reviews before going with this company.

Bad Business and Unethical
If I can give this company zero stars, I would. Stay far away from them. They are scammers. I've been using them for my energy supplier for almost a year and paid every month in full, on time. They will steadily increase your rate, but when I finally decided to cancel my service with them, I received the most outrageous bill I've ever seen in my life for electricity. They will find a way to make their money. Never in my wildest dreams would I ever receive a $388 bill for one month. Very unethical and I will make sure I let everyone I know to stay far away.

Offered $100 if we signed up but nowhere it was mentioned the 100. We got home and it was $20 gift card, not $100 and the rest was fine but we were going to save only $2/month in our monthly bills so we called to cancelled after reading how the rates jumped so high after the first 3 months. We were told we had to wait 2 billing cycles but we cancelled the 3rd day since we signed up so legally they had to cancell!! We had no access to a written contract with all info lady on the phone was saying until 3 weeks later and what we had didn't match with her info. We had no way to log in until waiting 3 more weeks so we just wanted to cancel. Too many inconsistencies and contradictory information. We were able to cancelled but not transparent and with deceptive practices. Do not trust this company!

Stay away.. scam and fraud
NRG harassed me to sign up at 6%. Then a few months later, my bill doubled. When calling them, which was a nightmare, I was informed that my new rate was 11% because my initial rate was only good for 3 months.
This was never mentioned by the person that signed me up.
Customer Service is horrible because they don't care about existing customers when they are scamming new people every day to sign up with them.

My electric bill is double what it was. Customers shouldn't have to contact a legit utility company every 3 months. Customers should be informed by NRG reps from the beginning that the rates double after 3 months. NRG doesn't tell you to call in 3 months, they don't tell you how much the rate increase is. Deceptive Practices, Rude, Can't do basic math
My wife was approached by one of these guys in a walmart. He yelled at her from about 4 aisles down and then began going to work. After he got her to sign up she called me (I was at work), and she told me she had lowered our electric bill by signing up with NRG. They had "locked us in at .09/Kwh for 2 years. AEP was charging us .112/Kwhr! He looked at our bill and showed me!" The problem there was that our city recently switched to an aggregate and our rates are actually only .062/Kwhr which is much lower than AEP charges. After I got off work, I went over to the walmart to ask questions to the guy since it didn't make sense to me how raising our rate by almost 50% was going to save us money. When I approached him and let him know my wife signed up earlier and I had questions, he asked who my wife was. I told him and he goes, "Oh, is she the...not trying to be rude..." and made a sweeping gesture with his hands to mime a heavier set person. HOW IS THAT NOT RUDE?! And then when I started asking questions about how a rate that's about 50% higher than our current one would save us money. He straight up told me that 9 is not 50% higher than 6. I made him pull out his calculator to make him understand basic math. These guys do not care what you pay, it is their job just to sign you up. He saw our bills and knew we had a lower rate and lied to my wife and got her to sign up to a higher rate, and then body shamed her to me. AVOID NRG AT ALL COSTS!! These guys are never looking out for your best interests, they just want you sign up so they get their commission.

First month in my new place, an 1 bedroom 1 bathroom. they told me I would save more money there than AEP i decided to switch , my first bill on AEP was $140. Next month it was with NRG and my bill was $222 , way more than I shouldve paid. I decided to cancel same day I got that bill, my new AEP bill just came and it is $130. I would never suggest NRG unless you want a bill between $200/$300. Unnecessarily robbed out of money.

Double the rate of ComEd
BUYER BE WARE!!!! As my usage went down due to energy efficient appliances, NRG increased their rate. For the past 12 months, NRG rate was approx. $0.12 vs. ComEd $0.06 per KWH. The trusting soul that I am, just realized that NRG overcharged me by approximately $539.64 over the past 12 months. I have terminal cancer, have been ill for over four years and have not been well enough to really read my bill. When I called NRG, the customer service representative implied that it was my fault for not calling them. I trusted that their rates would be competitive (equal to or less than) with ComEd. What they are doing to criminal.

NRG is a SCAM - BUYER Beware
I paid NRG for several years for their underground sewer/main waterline repair. A couple months ago I found out my main water line was broken and I paid over $10k to make the repair and sent the claim to NRG with all the documentation and after a few weeks they approved my claim. After waiting for my claim check for several weeks I contacted them and they informed me that they need additional documents which I sent to them. Upon sending them the docs they denied my claim because the leak was under the foundtion of the house and apparently they only cover leakds outside the home which is not what I was told when I signed up for the plan. If you're thinking about using NRG, think twice, they will find any way possible to deny your claim. These guys are pure scammers and you're better off getting coverage with a reputable company that will be there when you actually need the services.

In four months they've raised my gas rate by 247%. I signed on for a 3 month promotional deal at Walmart. I forgot to call and renew after nine months, my bad. However, in the four month interim, the rate went from .32 per therm, to .79 per therm! They raise the rate by 30% each month, so the compounding effect is huge! NRG SCAMS YOU!
When the NRG guy pitched his sale to us, he talked about locking in the best energy rate and claiming theirs was the lowest. He got us locked in for 12 months, then we noticed our energy bill climbing. After the promo rate (which wasn't actually the lowest as he'd claimed), our bill started getting higher each month. Before NRG, our highest monthly bill didn't go over 150. This month, in spite of warmer weather (less heat and space heater use) and no ac's hooked up yet for summer, we were shocked with a $320 bill. Calling toledo Edison, they said NRG is charging us 13.5c/kwh, while their standard rate right now is 7.5c/kwh!! Without NRG we would be paying $113. That's $207 that NRG is overcharging just in 1 month! I'm trying to support a family of 6 here, and they don't care who you are if they can con you out of money. Boycott NRG. We cancelled them immediately after receiving this bill and talking to the customer support at toledo Edison.

What a scam
We were approached in Sams Club and the lady basically forced us to sign up. She pulled my phone out of my hand and had me tell her the numbers to put in to dial the number so that we could call customer service to our energy provider. We didnt even give her permission yet that we wanted to switch and she immediately called them after speaking with them. She assured us that we were going to save a whole bunch of money and we were going to get a gift card from Sams Club. None of these were true. We got to the checkout and our gift card never arrived. Checking the comments I see that is a common theme. We got our first bill and it was double what we normally pay. Our bill usually runs about $250. Our first bill ran over $500. The next bill was nearly $600 and every bill since then has been right around five and $600 consistently when it used to run right around $250 There has been absolutely no savings. When we went to cancel the person on the phone was pushy and insisted on keeping us from canceling. She even offered us a discount. Then when my husband remained firm with her and said to cancel she said that it was going to take at least three to four billing cycles to process the change. It didnt take that long to put them on our bill. If you see one of these people in Sams Club run the other way do not talk to these people. They are scammers. I dont know what can be done legally, but they are breaking the law they have to be. It is shameful what they are doing to some of these people that cant afford a huge bill like that not that we can.

In PA and signed up for a 12 month plan at a decent rate, however, when the plan ended, the rate went up 160% - which is significantly higher than PPL's base rate!! They mentioned they sent a letter, however I did not see anything except wording that even without a contract, the rate would be competitive! Maybe if I lived in a remote part of Alaska and wanted to save a few cents from running a gas powered generator!! This company is not worth investing in unless you watch them with a microscope. Singed up at Walmart NRG service for a three-month contract. Since I had paperless billing and auto-pay, didn't pay much attention to the billing details. Due to the onset of Winter, thought that the high billing was due to the high usage of gas heating.
But when I checked the billing statements for the last few months, realized they have increased the gas rates from 38¢ to 92¢ as I didn't renew the contract. I was royally screwed on an average of $125 per month.
When I called customer service, they tried to give me a credit of $30. Even if I want to renew the contract, the new offered price of 38¢ won't be effective until 1-2 billing cycles which is ridiculous. So they want me to spend another $250 more when compared to PECO. If I want to cancel the service, again the same story - 1-2 billing cycles.
So don't fall for the NRG reps trying to lure you to sign up. STAY away from NRG.

Rebate's Read the fine print
I bought a refrigerator from lowes and NRG offered a rebate threw Lowes for $150 gift card. I signed up with NRG and after I fulfilled the contract and asked where the gift card was NRG informed me in the 3 pages of fine print that you need to be an attorney to read it says if you ever received a promotion from them b4 you will not receive the gift card. This tells me they have to fool people into there service. NRG should be ashamed of themselves. I will spend every day telling people of this scam called NRG.

What a rip off
Ive been a customer since early 2021, lately Ive noticed how high my gas and electric bill has been so I had my bill audited. Came to find out that NRG is charging me way more than my normal suppliers (PGW & PECO). Im a senior and still working full time Im appalled! I really got roped in to that sales pitch and Im in sales BEWARE

DO NOT CHOOSE NRG!!
I've had NRG for over 12 months and they were only lower than DLC the first two months. My rate is 3x the DLC rate. I despise this company and their false advertising.

Tricked me into Service!
I was told I had to sign up to see the price differences. When I did and chose not to continue, I called and cancelled all services!!!! They only cancelled my electric and continued the gas service without my permission! They're not trustworthy at all!

Rate went up with NRG.
Another Walmart bad experience with NRG in store salesman. Basically was told my rates would go down. First month, four days actually, my electric bill had a $14.63 NRG charge in addition to my normal monthly charge. It was somewhat difficult cancelling NRG. I havent gotten my latest gas bill. I dread to think what it may cost. Stay away from NRG.

What a scam
Was told I was getting a gift card for being with my local energy provider. I was adamant that I did not want to switch providers or raise my electric bill. After looking me up and having me sign an agreement to send me the gift card that they would not let me read. I was signed up for NRG that was charging more. I immediately called to cancel with them. They told me they would cancel and have it so I was never in the system. They assured me that there was no need to contact my energy provider to have them stop it and gave me a cancelation code. A week later I got a welcome to NRG email. I called a second time. The cancelation ticket was never submitted by the first person. The second person whom I was hoping would cancel it refused to email me a verification that I did indeed cancel it this second time. I had to contact my local provider to cancel NRG because of how shady their business dealings are. Would not recommend this company to my worst enemy.

SCAMMERS
So I have not had issues in the past with this promotion and signing up with this company. They usually get you when you are in Walmart. So yesterday I signed up at the Walmart with the associate and was told Id receive a Walmart gift card for $20. Well it never arrived in my email and called them and I was told that the associate never sent it and that the customer service representative I spoke with said he couldnt issue me one that I would have to return to the Walmart and hope that the associate was there. Well I returned today and nope they were not so the whole promotion was a scam to get me to sign up. I will contacting them to remove them from my electric and I also have them with my gas. I have been a customer for years and now because they want to scam me they will lose me as a customer. I do not recommend anyone use this company because they will lie and say anything to sign u up..

Scam
I signed this up at Sam's Club and the representative did not tell me that the prices would go so high after a period of time and it seems that was part of the long agreement we signed. He just mentioned my electricity prices would be always lower than the the prices I used to pay, if I use the same amount of electricity.
