Deposit Issues and Complaints (126 reviews)

Deposits for electricity in Pennsylvania can be a hassle and usually range from $100 to $500. Some companies handle them well with lower deposit amounts or lower credit thresholds while others turn you upside down and shake the lunch money out of your pocket. If deposits are causing you issues, you can read deposit related reviews from other customers before you sign up for an energy company.

about average compared to other providers

What I dont understand is why when your plan expires they jack up the rate per kWh. Every provider Ive had does it including Ambit. What about customer loyalty? Doesnt matter - its all about hail to the ol mighty dollar. Was an Ambit customer for 2+years and paid late a few times because the bill was so high I couldnt afford it. They charge enormous late fees and will disconnect your service at the drop of a hat then demand the bill + deposit of $400 or greater. I had to pay over $600 to get it reconnected. They turned it off during the summer here in Texas and I have children in my home. I dont think that deregulation should mean deregulating completely. The fees they charge usurious and she be banned. I dont think I save any more money now then I did when TXU was the only provider. I think the whole electricity industry is running a racket.

This company is so easy to get, but beware they ask for deposits again and again! Their customer service is no where near proffesional. I am just waiting for my contract to be over!

Company won't survive with this customer service

(2.2 / 5)

I currently have 3 stream electric accounts and
have done
business with for years. I am in the
investment business of
buying and selling homes, constantly needing
service turned on and
off. Getting new service with these guys is
the most painful
call I make. It always starts with a rep who
can't speak or communicate the English language
or read number back to you? After 30 minutes
of torture they tell me I have to pay a $250.00
deposit. I then ask to talk to a supervisor
and he says it's a new policy everyone pays a
$250 deposit for new service. What a shame....

Use 4change energy instead

(2 / 5)

Ive been a customer of Tri Eagle Energy for 4.5 years (no deposit required). My bill has been on auto pay the whole time. We owned a duplex (lived in one side rented the other). Tenant left and I need electricity to clean. Tri Eagle charged me a 250 deposit to have electricity to have electricity for a week. Last month we had to evict a tenant. I called Tri Eagle again, they wanted a tenants lease and wanted pictures of my license and social security card. Called 4change Energy, they got my electric right away. Then we sold the property. Called Tri Eagle to disconnect service, was told it would be the next day for disconnection and never sent me a confirmation for disconnection. Called 4change energy, they disconnected service right away and sent me my final bill immediately. I waited 3 days and called Tri Eagle , then they finally told me that service was disconnected and emailed me a final bill. Please take my advice and dont use Tri Eagle and go with 4 change energy.

The worst company to do business with!

(2 / 5)

Ive had Xoom Natural gas for 6 months, no problem. Then I moved to another town, I asked them to switch it over to my new address, they never did! Their online service is terrible, its hard to log in, it wont accept your password, so I had to call costumer service to help me, they told me I could not get service at my new location because I never gave them $150.00 deposit for their service. I have never heard of such a thing. They didnt ask for that when I first got natural gas from them at my previous address, now they want $150.00 deposit? Sounds like a scam to me. Im going to contact the BBB about this. Well see if I get the natural gas that I ordered from Xoom. Customer service is nice but they dont know the answers to the questions I ask. Do not use this company, terrible service!
