Problems with Fees and Charges (701 reviews)
Elusive live agent
“ I can't get a live agent or pay my bill. They changed their voice options format. Push a number no longer exists. Push 1 for billing and then everything is voice. I lose my voice twice a month due to my disability. I'm not computer literate and Done trust internet payments. I now need to find another energy provider because of this discrimination against the disabled. That's a good LEGAL reason why to break contract without fees. ”

Unscrupulous Sales Liars target Mature/Elderly
“ I manage my neighbors/friends electric account, Smart Energy told her via telephone their rate was better, obtained her contact thru ppl, (I changed her to NO SHARING), they switched her from a rate .067 Cirro good company, to .1023. She had a contract w/cirro for 2/18 - 2/19 and would have had cancellation charges to boot. Cirro did not charge her and was great to help me solve this injustice, ppl could see that she had been scammed and did nothing about this and made it harder to get back to Cirro without first charging their increased rates for 7 days. ”

THE MOST EXPENSIVE ELECTRIC BILLING COMPANY
“ They will promise to help you save. Its the fees they charge that get you. When u sign the contract with them. They know u cant switch without paying that very high cancellation fee. So they start with $20 fees here $6 there before you know it. You are paying an average of $34-$96 in fees more every month on top of your electric usage ”

Worst Decision ever made
“ I decided to use XOOM for my gas Provider and in one month I had bill of $358.25 ($158.62 - 44.28%) charges more than my local Gas Company. I switched because time when I switch rate of XOOM was little less than my gas company NJNG. Afte one year they shoot up price like anything and i ended up paying dearly. By the time i realized what was going on it was two years and i must have paid $$1500 more than i should have paid since i have large house and i live in NJ in colder weather. To save couple cent, do not switch to this shady company who will show upfront some saving and lock you in contract and you forget to switch after contract is over. ”

What they do is legal...but it is deceptive...
“ Ambit requires 1 year contracts, at least they did for residents of my community. I pay my bills online, but Ambit's website is down regularly after 10pm or so....maybe earlier, but that is when I finish my day and sit down and work on bills and stuff. This led to late payments, waiting for the next time the site was up. So I set up auto pay, but then my bill goes up. And then a payment fails, but I am not notified until my service is cut. Sometimes I work from home, so this is not acceptable. I am planning to move, but now that they have required a deposit, and for me to re-start a 1 year contact because of the shut off, I will lose the deposit when I move. All of this is legal. You can get bills and notices mailed, but they won't get to you in time, so paying online is still better. But keep an eye on the rate and rate changes and don't set up autopay. Better yet...don't waste your time and money on this outfit. Look at their reviews. They are profitable because of with held deposits, fees, and energy rates that change or are to their best interest, not yours. ”

.14 c and .17c month to month trap
“ I have been with them since 2007. When in a contract there are not many issues. I have 2 accounts with them on auto debit. One time they debited one account, but not the other and sent me disconnection notice and fees demand. Notice, both accounts use the same CC. Took the fees off, but not off my record. Hmm. I have been off the contract for who knows how long. My month to month rate right now is 14 and 17 cents. Quite a high rate compare with 8 cents you can find somewhere else. I called several months ago and they offered like 12 cents which is way higher than others. My son got a much cheaper promotional rate at his apartment as a new customer. I guess they don't care about loyal customers! Very dissapointing. On the other hand I like they offer auto debit by CC and more organized than some other outfits around. I lost a lot of money being month to month for a couple of years and ready to move my business somewhere else. ”
