Save Now with Cheap Priced 12 Month Plans

This year has been brutal for electricity rates in PA. Met-Ed customers alone have seen a rate increase of nearly 9%. And to top it off, the EIA predicts that natural gas use this year will be at an all time high, likely raising prices further into the spring. But as rates rise, you still have the option to shop and save. You can shop the cheapest electric rates now and save. And a 12 month plan is just the ticket if you want to protect yourself from future rate increases. So check out how these cheap priced plans save over the Met-Ed rate!
Beat the Winter Met-Ed Rate
The current Met-Ed PTC rate is 12.965¢ per kWh. So, assuming the average monthly electricity usage is about 854 kWh, that’s around $110.72 a month for the supply charge along. There are cheaper options! However, there are some things to keep in mind as you shop.
The Met-Ed PTC rate expires on May 31, 2026. And as a result, the PTC rate that follow will include the higher prices from last summer’s PJM capacity auction. So, while some plans we recommend may have rates that are a little higher than the PTC rate, they will likely be much cheaper than those coming in June, 2026.
Lowest Priced Met-Ed Plans
First up, the Electric 12 Month Fixed Rate WITH MRC plan from Public Power, is our cheapest available rate. And because it is a 12 month rate, it will not change this summer, unlike Met-Ed. Coming in at a low of 12.7 cents per kWh, the estimated monthly supply charge runs about $108.46. The plan does come with a flat $14.95 monthly charge and there is a $50 early cancellation fee.
Next we have the Verde Energy Clean Power 12 plan. This green plan starts at 13.7 cents per kWh, making it our third cheapest available for Met-Ed. And it brings your monthly estimated supply charge to $117. Additionally, this plan is supported 100% by renewable energy through RECs. The real clincher is Verde Energy’s customer rewards program which includes giveaways, discounts, and bonuses. All these help make up for the marginally higher rate. And, as a bonus, there are no monthly charges or early termination fees.
Last but not least, if you want the best bang for your buck look no further than the Xoom Energy SureLock 12 plan. This plan comes in at 12.8 cents per kWh, so energy supply costs will run about $109.32 per month. There’s also no extra monthly charges. Moreover, through their XoomXtras rewards program, you can earn points to spend on anything from gift cards to vacation stays that make up for the higher rate. There is also is an early termination fee of $55 to bear in mind.
