Problems with Fees and Charges (702 reviews)
Added fees; exorbitant prices
“ I had to obtain service for 3 months which caused higher pricing. However, not only did they gouge with higher per kWh rates but added fees (a $10 monthly fee, $4.22 payment fee) plus added taxes & regulatory fees common to other sources. ”

Horrible company with predatory practices
“ Absolute crooks. I had their prepaid service for almost 2 years. It got to where it was over $12 a day for 40kwh of electricity. I had only ever lived in areas with single municiple power providers before this, so I didn't know how crazy high these companies can mark up prices. Just switched to Griddy, also a prepaid service, and using the same amount of power, same temperatures outside, and the same wholesale power costs, we are paying about $2 per day for the same power. Yes, that includes the delivery fees as well. All in, we are hitting $75 for the month now where we were paying about $350 per month before.I am a fool for not looking in to it sooner, but this system of selling power seems to intentionally convolute the process so predatory companies like Frontier utilities can take advantage of people. In addition, they have, without exaggeration, the worst websites I have ever used for a utility. The data is slow and convoluted when compared to other companies. Not even the credit card form is formatted properly. Browsers don't recognize the form as a credit card form so if you use systems to securely store card info and fill those fields, it won't work. ”

Very Pushy and No Advantages
“ It was about 9pm, we had just had this major snow storm, and someone comes knocking on my door. I have a small dog and was alone and between the constant barking they just wouldn't leave. I felt pressured into saying yes, some of it sounded good. But then I got a couple months of bills and my monthly payment was WAY higher (mainly doubled, at one point tripled). I was seriously mad and felt like I got seriously ripped off. When I called customer service, the lady was nice and said there weren't any hidden fees. I didn't really see any either however the following bill after I cancelled, was more than double my last statement. So not sure if they got me there or not. I definitely would not recommend...they definitely knew where to go though. I live in an older condo community so they knew to target the older generation who may have been more confused or misguided. ”

Over priced
“ Do not use this company!!! Beware of high hidden fees and although the customer service reps are very friendly, this company is a trap. We are a young family trying to save for a home, anywhere we can. We tried to get out of our plan after seeing that Xoom energy charges an energy service fee from Oncor Monthly of 65.00 and it would be 350.00 to close our service with them. Unbelievable!!!!!! ”

DO NOT sign with StarTex
“
I have never been so mistreated by a company in my life. They ran my payment through 7-10 days before it was authorized. They did reverse it however it took several days to correct on my end. During that time i acquired $280 in over drafts fees. They were credited to my account. They did the same thing a month later only they didn't correct it and only gave me 50% reimbursement of the fees. I had letters from my bank, bank statements and even allowed them to contact my local branch to get it resolved once and for all.
I want to say that StarTex WAS a wonderful company and we never had a single issue. Until CONSTELLATION bought them. ”

Rip off existing customers
“ Green Mountain tried very hard to get me to renew at a high rate (13.6 cents a KWH). Even tried to tell me that was the best rate for existing customers. (Both via mail and via their website and via their customer service, so it was a repeated and concerted effort to overcharge me.)Since I knew other providers were offering 10.6 cents and GM was offering that for new customers, I kept asking for their best rates. After an hour on the phone and 3 times on hold while a manager was consulted, they offered me an 8 cent rate. (All rates include Centerpoint charges, so in this case the GM rate was 3.1 cents). Couldn't convince them to give me more than 13 months or to start it immediately (either of which should have been an option), because I was tired after so long on the phone. I have been a GM customer for 15 years, and expected to be treated better than this. ”
