Best Electric Rates in Pittsburgh
Low price Pittsburgh electricity plans are yours for the taking! You don’t have to settle for the local utility service from Duquesne Light Company. Sure, their price to compare (PTC) rate is 7.11 cents per kWh through August 31, 2020 but news flash! There are many plans with electricity rates in Pittsburgh that are cheaper! So you don’t have to stick with Duquesne Light Company’s PTC high rate. Check out these electricity suppliers whose plan rates beat the PTC!
Cheap Four-Month Plans
Short term plans offer a great way to learn about a supplier. Four-month electricity plans let you test an electricity plan without a year-long commitment. Two plans to consider that beat the Duquesne Light PTC rate include the XOOM Energy SureLock 4 plan and the Public Power Electric 4 Month Standard Fixed Rate plan.
The XOOM Energy SureLock 4 plan is 6.59 cents per kWh and has no monthly recurring fees. There’s a $35 early termination fee, but with such a short term, you probably won’t need to cancel early. XOOM Energy customers have access to the company rewards program that offers daily giveaways and shopping deals. When it’s time for your contract to end, you’ll receive two written renewal notices 60 days and 30 days prior. If you don’t respond, your contract will continue at the fixed or variable rate noted in the letters.
The Public Power Electric 4 Month Standard Fixed Rate plan costs 6.69 cents per kWh with no monthly fees. If you must cancel early for some reason, you’ll pay $50 as an early termination fee. Public Power also offers a rewards program for its customers called Power Perks. Customers can earn up to 40% cash back on specific retail shopping, gift cards for dining and shopping, and double rewards for energy-efficient products. During the final two months of your contract, you’ll receive two written renewal notifications. If you don’t respond, you’ll be automatically renewed at the rate noted in the letters with no early termination fee.
Best Six-Month Electricity Rates
If the four-month electricity plans are a little too short in term length, take a look at the six-month plans. You’ll still get a price cheaper than Duquesne Light’s PTC rate but not be locked in for too long. Two plans to consider include the Frontier Utilities Online Lock-6 plan and the NextEra Energy NextEra Eco Saver 6 plan.
The Frontier Utilities Online Lock-6 plan is 6.39 cents per kWh and has a recurring monthly management fee of $4.95 per month. If you cancel early, there’s no early termination fee. As your contract approaches the end of the term, you’ll receive two written renewal notifications in the last two months. Unless a renewal term greater than a month is entered into, the agreement will continue on a month-to-month basis at a variable rate listed in the notice. You can cancel anytime with no early termination fee.
Another low-price six-month electricity plan is the NextEra Energy NextEra Eco Saver 6 plan. This plan costs 6.69 cents per kWh with no monthly recurring fee. The company charges $10 per month for all months remaining on the contract if you cancel early, so keep this in mind. In the last two months of the contract, you’ll receive two written notices regarding renewal stating the terms. If you don’t respond, your current agreement can become a renewal agreement with no early termination fee.
12-Month Cheap Electricity Plans
If you want a 12-month plan that’s cheaper than Duquesne Light’s PTC rate, consider the Starion Energy Starion Secure 12 plan, Constellation 12 Month Home Power Plan, and Tomorrow Energy 12 Month Fixed plan.
The Starion Energy Starion Secure 12 plan is 6.99 cents per kWh with no fees, including early termination fees. Starion Energy offers a money-saving rewards program where you can earn credits to be used for dining and shopping gift cards. When it’s time to renew your plan, you’ll receive two written notifications during the last two months of service which detail renewal terms.
Another 12-month plan offered at 6.99 cents per kWh is the Constellation 12 Month Home Power Plan with no monthly recurring fees. There’s a $150 early termination fee, but this doesn’t apply during the first three months because of the Constellation 90-Day Satisfaction Guarantee. As an added bonus, Constellation customers can earn a $50 gift card with the refer-a-friend program. The friend gets one too! The customer will receive two written renewal notices in the last two months of the contract with new terms. If you do nothing, Constellation can extend your contract for 12 months with no early termination fee.
One final 12-month plan to consider is the Tomorrow Energy 12 Month Fixed plan at 7.08 cents per kWh with no monthly fees. The only fee attached to the plan is an early termination fee of $75. Tomorrow Energy is a renewable energy company that operates with the environment in mind. It replaces the energy customers use with energy generated from 100% wind power. When the contract is two months from ending, you’ll receive two separate written renewal notices. The service will continue on a month-to-month basis at a variable rate if you don’t respond to the notices.
