So to help clear up that, we’re posting our PA Summer Utility PTC Rate Review. Here you’ll find all the future PTC rates listed and how they’re going to affect your upcoming electricity rates and electric bills.

Summer Utility Rate Roundup

We’re going to review all of the utility rate changes in the state. Of course, not everyone uses the same amount of electricity. But to show how these changes could affect an average customer’s monthly bill we’ll look at the EIA monthly use data. According to that information, the average monthly residential electricity usage in PA runs about 851 kWh per month.

  • PECO residential PTC rates will rise from 9.72 cents per kWh to 10.31 cents per kWh. That’s a 6% increase. So this will take your electricity supply cost from $82.72 to $87.74
  • PPL residential PTC rates are decreasing from 14.61 cents per kWh to 12.13 cents per kWh. That’s a 17% decrease. So this will take your electricity supply cost from $124.33 to $103.23
  • MetEd residential PTC rates will rise from 9.91 cents per kWh to 10.24 cents per kWh.That’s a 2.4% increase. So this will take your electricity supply cost from $78.21 to $87.14.
  • Penelec residential PTC rates will rise from 9.56 cents per kWh to 9.70 cents per kWh.That’s a 1.5% increase. So this will take your electricity supply cost from $81.35 to $82.55
  • Penn Power residential PTC rates will rise from 10.43 cents per kWh to 10.55 cents per kWh.That’s a 1.1% increase. So this will take your electricity supply cost from $88.76 to $89.78
  • West Penn Power residential PTC rates will rise from 8.22 cents per kWh to 9.92 cents per kWh.That’s a 20%  increase. This will take your electricity supply cost from $69.95 to $84.42
  • Lastly, DLC Residential rates are going up 4%, from 8.83 cents per kWh to 9.19 cents per kWh.  So this will take your electricity supply cost up from $75.14 to $78.21

Avoid Paying That High Utility PTC Rate

If you’re in the PPL service area, a rate decrease is very good. But you’re still paying too much for the best PA electricity plans by taking the PTC rate. So here are two plans to consider if you want to save money this summer.

First, if you want to cover the next six months, I recommend the APG&E True Simple Six. At only 9 cents per kWh, you’ll save nearly $50 a month from the current PTC rate.

Or if you want to lock in a lower price for longer, take a look at the Frontier Energy Secure Power 12 plan. With a rate of only 9.39 cents per kWh, you’re saving $46 a month from the current PTC rate.
