Disconnect Fees and Problems (418 reviews)
$20.00 every time they MAIL out a disconnect notice!!!
“ I've had Green Mountain for over a year haven't had any problems until recently. I logged in to pay my bill and it showed a current balance of $230.00 for my 1 bedroom apartment. I called and the customer service agent told me I was being charged for 2 disconnect notices. I told her there was a mistake, that my electricity had never been disconnected. She went on to explain that they charge $20 just to mail out the disconnect notice and since they don't have a grace period the notice can be mailed out at anytime after the due date. Meaning, they can mail out a disconnect notice if you are late even by just a day or two and you're out 20 bucks. She said it's in the contract. I told her it might be, on the back of page 16 in small print, but I did my contact over the phone and I was not told about it. Check your contract and billing history. There's a good chance you have paid the $20 charge too. Then spread the word so people can avoid this company. ”

Awful!!!
“ I switched to StarTex after Texas Power began raising our rates into the $.22 range without notice that our plan had expired. StarTex was great at first, bills stayed low then found out they had been estimating for months. Long story short, ended up paying over $700 in one month ON TIME and they still disconnected us the day after I came home from the hospital after major surgery. It took hours and numerous threats to "supervisors" for them to admit I had payed my bills on time & they never should have disconnected our service in the first place. Even the Oncor employee that came to disconnect us said that he has heard lots of complaints on StarTex. They claim to have great customer service but it is among the worst I have ever seen right behind TexasPower. Swithched to Champion and hoping for a better experience. ”

What customer service
“ Worst electric provider ever. I have been with them for five years, never a late payment. I make a mistake and ending up sending their payment to the gas company due to an online banking mistake I made. I called when I received the disconnect notice. Customer service assured me it was no problem and that service would not be disconnected for 6 days. Two days later, the day the bill cleared my bank correctly, I get a disconnect notice stating they were shutting me off at midnight. Three customer service reps, call me a liar saying they did not call. Gets worse the late notice does not include late fee which I now find out I will owe next month. They draft my account tell me to fax them a copy and they will look into it, by then will probably be in the dark. I have paid it and for their sake I hope they figure it out in time. I will NEVER renew with this company EVER again. Dis-respectful, rude, they obviously do not need my business. Think they forgot it is a two way street. Your FIRED. ”

Horrible
“ Billing is the worst ever, they cant get it right, send you an email stating one thing and do another, NOT just once every other month. Sent all their customers today a disconnect notice that was an ERROR I cant wait till my contact is up and I can run away from here. ”

Stream Energy has PATHETIC Billing and Account Management
“ The billing and account management department at Stream Energy is pathetic. We have received a disconnection notice even though our account is paid in full, and what's worse is that the fax number(s) that they've provided for us to send proof of the posted checks are off line. This company is turning out to be some sort of scam and they have been reported to the PUC and to local news media watchdogs. Be careful with these scam artists! ”
